"Hi, Daddy."

Daniel looked up from his desk and did a double-take at his daughter. "Why are you all dressed up?"

Liana grinned and Daniel was struck by the resemblance to Vala. "I have a date."

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" he asked. He was certain that he had mis-heard and his fifteen year old daughter was not dating. She was far too young to date.

"I have a date," she repeated, still grinning.

"VALA!" Daniel called. "Get in here!"

His wife rushed in, looking disheveled. "What's wrong, Daniel? Oh, darling, you look beautiful!" she said, cooing over their daughter and reaching out to straighten the straps on her dress.

"Liana seems to think that she is going on a date," Daniel said, standing up now, his arms folded across his chest.

"Yes, and doesn't she look beautiful?" Vala said.

Daniel rubbed his forehead. "Vala, she's only fifteen. I don't think I approve of her dating yet. And I don't approve of you making that decision without consulting me."

Both women rolled their eyes and Daniel sighed, knowing that when his wife and daughter ganged up on him, he was fighting a losing battle. "Daddy, plenty of girls my age go on dates. We're just going to dinner. It's completely innocent."

"Really, Daniel. I trust Liana to be responsible," Vala added. "What is wrong with her going to dinner with a boy?"

"Do we know anything about this boy or his family?" Daniel asked wearily.

Liana started giggling. "I'd say you know plenty."

An uneasy feeling crept over Daniel. "Who is your date with, Liana?"

"Mitch."

Vala smirked. "See, Daniel. Nothing to worry about. Claire is going to drive them to the restaurant and I agreed to pick them up. It will be perfectly safe."

Daniel sat back down. "Have fun, honey," he said.

"I will, Daddy!" Liana said, bouncing over to kiss her father on the cheek as the doorbell rang. Vala let Mitch in and led him to Daniel's study.

"Hey, Uncle Daniel," the boy greeted with a grin.

"Mitch," Daniel replied. "Where's your mother?"

"She's waiting in the car," he explained. "You ready, Li?"

Liana nodded. "I am," she said, picking up her purse from the chair where she had left it. "I'll call you when we're ready, Mom," she said.

Vala beamed at the two as Mitch offered Liana his arm. "Enjoy your dinner."

Once they were gone, Daniel frowned again. "Vala, I'm not sure how I feel about this."

"Oh, Daniel, don't be silly. I'd much rather have her dating a boy like Mitch that we know was raised to respect women than some of those other hoodlums at her school," Vala said.

He supposed she had a point there. But it didn't stop him from picking up his phone and dialing a familiar number.

"Hey, Melody. Can I talk to one or both of your dads, please?"

Vala frowned and leaned over to hit the speakerphone button before Cameron picked up the line. "Jackson, what's up? Claire and Mitch made it over there okay, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, they just left," Daniel said. "But Cameron, I gotta say, I'm not thrilled with this whole date thing. I hope that you and Jon gave your son a talk about how to treat my daughter properly."

Cameron burst into laughter. "Jon, you owe me twenty bucks!" he called.

There was a clatter as Jon picked up the other line. "Aw, man, Jackson. You don't trust my kid?"

Daniel pouted at the notion that they bet on his reaction to this date thing. And was upset to realize that he was the only parent not in the know, something he would surely discuss with Vala as soon as he disconnected the call. "Well, he is an O'Neill," Daniel pointed out.

More laughter and Vala leaned over. "And Liana is half Mal Doran which means that she can take care of herself."

"If your daughter breaks my son, we might have issues, Jackson," Cameron said.

"If your son gives my daughter a reason to break him then I will wholeheartedly support her," Daniel retorted.

"I suppose that's fair," Cameron admitted. "But come on, Daniel. You know Mitch. He's a good kid."

Daniel chuckled. "I know. It's just hard to imagine my baby girl all grown up. How would you feel if it was Melody going on her first date?"

There was a long silence on the other end of the line. "We gotta go," Cameron said, disconnecting the call without waiting for a response.

Vala and Daniel burst into laughter. "It's going to be fine, Daniel," Vala said, leaning over to kiss him.

They were interrupted by a chorus of "EW GROSS" from the doorway and looked up to see their twin boys making faces at them. "We're hungry, Mom! We want dinner."

"Okay, okay," Vala said. "Did you finish cleaning up your fingerpaints?"

Daniel shook his head as Vala led the boys out of his study, chattering away about their artwork.
