graduation and travel

Graduation day was nice. My program had a nice luncheon for everyone and I got to meet some of my friends' parents and family members. The ceremony it self was hot and crowded but pretty good. Our speaker was some guy from Walmart. But it was better than I thought it would be. But all in all it was a great day. Especially considering that it was supposed to be cold and rainy but ended up being sunny and pleasant. One disappointing thing was that the ceremony didn't include that part where the Dean says that little I know confer upon you your degrees thing and everyone moves their tassels over. Maybe they just don't do that for graduate and doctoral degrees? It is so weird to be done with school. I didn't really feel anything when I graduated from HS or Wooster as that was expected and just part of life. But getting my masters was entirely optional. (though market forces will soon be requiring it) It is hard to feel really accomplished though when you are used to an academic culture. Getting a masters to most of the people I know is par for the course too. But if you really think about it less than 10% of Americans have master's degrees of higher. So it is weird to feel both not special and special at the same time.

I am planning on heading down to VA for the second half of this week to visit. My brother and his girlfriend will be bouncing around the state and i want to see friends down there too. And there will also be much movie watching as I am behind on my summer blockbusters.
