No one gets anything worthwhile without suffering...

Went to my $2 movie last night to see Sound of Rio, a documentary about Choro - Brazilian "urban" music. Absolutely beautiful - the people, the music, the country... I love listening to them speak; their words come out as eloquently as their music, liquid romance for the soul. I love watching them play - such an intensity of emotions put into their ( Read more... )

I had to comment on the title. "No one gets anything worthwhile without suffering... " It reminds me of the Full Metal Alchemist series I just finished. It deals with the principal of equivelent exchange.
"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth."

Anyways I just wanted to comment on it. I was feeling philosophical this morning and that caught my attention.

That was one of the lines in a choro - liked it so much that I wrote it down! Full Metal Alchemist is good stuff!

I'd like to say that I think I'm about due some MAJOR happiness if that's true, but I also believe that when you expect things you tend to lose some appreciation for them, and that's no good either. ;)

Is kidnapping still a big problem in Brazil? I think it's gotten better. I'll go looking very poor, so they know I don't have any rich family that could pay my ransom. I just want to go hangout with the street musicians. And visit the rainforest. No kidnapping. :no no:

It was really really good, and I can't believe how few people showed up! It was so much better than the punk one!

Next week they have a band playing for $20, but Dec 10th is Ziggy Stardust...
