Really interesting question, isn't it? No?! Fair enough.
Still, they joined vampires and zombies in my TV-fantasy-creature-ensemble, courtesy of what is probably the best show I'm watching right now:
Fringe 3x01 - 3x05: Damn that show is on fire! I liked all the episodes so far, and the Olivia-switch-storyline plays out as good as I had hoped, maybe even better.
The season-opener was great, really liked the cab-driver and hope that he'll be back (seemed that way when he waited until Olivia came back out of the house before he drove away). Episode 2 and (especially) 4 had some interesting development regarding the mythology and the war between the two universes. Sad to see Newton go, but with a show like Fringe there should be ways to bring him back, one way or another. Episode 3 had one of the best MotW ever and episode 5 had a nice mix of MotW (and they even got *both* Ashmores) and continuing to explore the second universe. What both of these episodes had in common: Oh, how much do I love Team Alt-Fringe!! Their interaction is so much fun to watch. Not that I don't like the interaction of our world's team but those three play so well off each other. So yeah, I hope the switch doesn't get discovered that soon and we will see a lot more of Charlie and Lincoln!
(Me catching up with) Fringe is to blame that I'm only at episode 13 of the first season of The Vampire Diaries. But since 13 is still more than half of the season, let's do a little character-breakdown
Damon: Still the best part of the show, hands down. He's funny, he can be awesomely evil and Ian Somerhalder just has a lot of chemistry with everyone else on the show.
Stefan/Elena: Well, I like them more than I thought I would, which is really surprising. The good thing about her is that she doesn't just wait and let things happen, she's actively making decisions and acting brave. The thing I like about Stefan is that despite being the good vampire he can still be quite menacing when he has to.
Matt/Caroline: Not sure if I want to see them as a couple but I think they needed something to do. Especially for her since her days of Damon's puppet are (seem to be?) over.
Bonnie: Interesting backstory, on the flipside I've sometimes got the feeling that her character is defined too much by the witchiness, which sometimes makes her seem like a plot-device.
Jenna: Is pretty and attractive. :) Which is why I hope they'll give her more to do than just pining over boys/men. (Side note: I'm kinda glad, that my show-crush is age-appropriate. At least in show-context - Sara Canning is hardly two years older than Nina Dobrev). Hope she gets with Alaric.
Alaric: Because Alaric is awesome! Might give Damon a run for his money in the race for favorite character. If he lives long enough. :O What I like about him is that he's strong and brave but yet it shows that he is inferior to the vampires in fighting. And he's aware of that but still doesn't back down.
Other characters: Will Jeremy (and/or Matt) ever find out about Vicky? Is Tyler a werewolf? Why does Anna look so much like Kristin Kreuk's younger sister? And (attention, minor complaint!) why oh why does the council think that vampires can't come out during the day when their ancestors knew that some of them (Katherine, Pearl) could?
And finally, while the second episode of The Walking Dead, compared to the pilot, was a bit of a letdown, I still enjoyed it.
Two things I hated though: Of course the key to Dixon's handcuffs had to fall straight into the hole. Yeah sure, show. (Although the shot where we saw him left behind on the roof was great). And while I didn't get the misogyny-complaints about the pilot, Andrea not knowing how to unlock the safety of her gun - 6 weeks into a zombie-acocalypse - made the character look incredibly stupid.
Still, I'm very happy about the show being renewed
for a 13-episode season 2 !
