Home Sweet home

As the economy is plummeting, everyone is saying "Now's the time to buy!" and everyone's trying to squeeze as much as possible out of you, I am seriously losing sleep over what to do about living situations.
Next month, rent is going up once again on the tiny 650 sq ft apartment we live in and I'm starting to really get annoyed with lack of space. I know owning anything (even a condo) there is probably work that'll need to be put in. I've been looking for a condo (which are generally cheaper than houses) in my area and the prices are ridiculously high, I'm talking a mortgage of over $1500 a month, lets not even go near the mortgage for a house, those are in the $2000 a month range.

Right now, the apartment community I am with doesn't pay any of the utilities, so I'm already paying gas, water, electricity and the trash fee. Aside from that, as of next month, rent alone will be $960 a month. The amount doesn't bug me, just that I don't want to keep shelling this out every month for a space I'm getting tired of. Also, when I finish school, I will have a $300 a month bill to pay.

I've been looking at condos and houses and have found a few that even with VERY little down (I have AMAZING credit) I would only pay about $700 a month, and I'd OWN it and it's also be much bigger.

BUT, its not in the area I'd like to live in and I've gotten use to living in Orange County.

I wish CA wasn't so expensive. I have friends who own homes in other states and their mortgage is less than what I pay now for rent and it makes me sad. I actually pay more rent than my parents pay for the duplex they own, mind you, they rent the other house, but they pay $600 for their 4brm house. Sure they had a decent down payment, but they own it. I've lived in this apartment for over 2 years, and it averages about $21,000 in paid rent. It's incredibly depressing to see it that way, but that's the way it is.

I wish I could just win the lottery.

rent, homeowners, money
