My life has recently taken a turn for the better. Mostly, anyway.

To start with the bad news, the girl I'd seen a couple of times stopped responding to me. There was no explanation; she'd said a couple of times that she wanted to hang out again, but after Christmas I didn't get a single word from her, even after mentioning I'd be happy hanging out platonically. I was a little upset about this for a while - I appreciate and respect a "no," but an eternal "maybe" or a non-answer just sours things. That said, it's hard to remain irritated about that sort of thing when somebody else decided she was interested and we started actually dating.

M is a lot of fun. She's into geeky stuff, which is helpful, and is quite intelligent, which is also helpful. Plus, she looks good in a skirt.

Other stuff: I'm co-teaching a class. My primary duties to this point have been grading and holding office hours, but Monday I'm lecturing on random number generation. It's a bit of a surprise to me, since Monte Carlo methods are so important to what we're doing, but nobody seems to have covered them in sufficient detail. I hope to fix that, and avoid losing too many people along the way.

Research might be going somewhere, but for the most part it sort of feels like it's in limbo at the moment. At least, until other stuff gets out of the way...
