Blooddrop reviews - Valentine's edition

Feb 20, 2009 19:23

Ok so here are some more Blooddrop reviews I've been meaning to share... I'm just gonna c/p from my spreadsheet so they might seem a bit disjointed to anyone not me.

For Closedown: Grey amber, rice milk, vanilla musk, dark patchouli, juniper berry, allspice, ginger root, lavender, white cognac and spearmint.
Hmmm… faint spearmint that reminds me of gum, but also a creamy sweetness and maybe some ginger, possibly lavender but not too obnoxiously like it can be [ed note: don't like lavender, don't like mint AT ALL, not sure what possessed me here except that I am the eternal optimist in the face of other notes I do like ;)]. Very complex. As it dries it gets a bit spicier and the mintiness backs off some. Despite the patchouli this blend is very light and cool. I don't get a lot of throw from it. It has a really nice dryly spicy sophisticated dry down that I wish it smelled like the whole time. Ultimately this is quite interesting, but it isn't the type of scent I wear and I kinda knew that going in. ;)

For Fascination Street: Sinister Bordeaux wine, vetiver, honey, amyris, vanilla musk and dark patchouli.
Red fruitiness and maybe some floral? Almost a cherry candy scent at first, but not quite that bright or that sweet. The sort of perfumey quality this has could be from either the musk or the amyris, I'm just not familiar enough with Blooddrop's musk to know which. The darker elements come up a little more as it dries, and then it's like a sucker that fell in the dirt. The booziness becomes stronger as it dries, and the cherry finally morphs into wine. The perfumey quality is borderline for me and makes this not a keeper.

For Untitled: Flaxen vanilla musk, gold musk, Tahitian vanilla, Egyptian myrrh, cocoa absolute ever so slightly tarnished with anise.
Wet there is rich woody vanilla, and a slightly perfumey musk comes out as it dries. I don't know that I smell any cocoa. It becomes creamier as it dries, and maybe there's some anise I'm smelling but it's just a slightly bitter edge, I don't actually smell licorice. Dries to a subtle creamy slightly darkened vanilla musk.

Wood & Stones: Wood, stone, earth and cool shaded air. Two mosses, vetiver, spruce, wild rosewood, cedar wood and a good handful of rich loam.
Lots of earth at first, supported by some wood. Moist and just a bit perfumey. Becoming more headachey perfumey as it sits on my skin, also kind of soapy. Ugh, my skin chemistry did this one in big time... whatever is in here that didn't agree with me *really* didn't agree, which is a shame because these notes are a laundry list of some of my favorite things. I hate it when that happens.

Diabolique: richly spiced woods and ambers, red musk, vanilla musk, cinnamon leaf, dark patchouli, ginger, vetiver, honey galore, allspice, myrrh, almond and golden herbs.
Mmmm… complex. Red musk like the kind in Mme Moriarty, so yummy, with patchouli there but not bad hippy patch, and other spice… the entire effect is rich and red and lovely. Dries down to a musky spicy incense. I LOVE this, it's the big winner for me of the bunch. Definitely getting a bottle asap, because I seem to recall that it's not permanent, even though it's listed in the GC section. Gorgeous!

Merci 21
This is fruity and maybe a little boozy with some spice. I really like this; it's juicy and late-summerish... like fruits just going into harvest time, almost overripe and not too bright/sweet. Yum.
