Express Eventing - Jumping photos

Camera struggled with the horses moving so fast, the light was poor and I still haven't read the instruction book to get the best out of the camera. Oops! Will do so before foals are born, promise!

If you want to know who a horse and rider combination is ask me and I'll try to figure it out. Some I know, most I don't without looking!

"interesting" circle of show jumps.

Bettina Hoy walking the course. x-country jumps are scary at 4* heights!

This horse has an "interesting" way of jumping show jumps.

then fell at this one... (horse and rider were both ok) Most photos are of this fence because it was the most exciting in terms of horses jumping it and also was close to where we were sat.

Up and over at speed.

THIS is how to correctly jump off that fence...

This is the fence Mary King's horse Cavvi later fell at. Every horse that tried it before cleared it well.

Jumping out of one of the water jumps. Impressive, this jump was the other side of the arena to where I was sat.

Didn't think this horse would make this jump, but he did...

Then promptly refused the next which was just one stride after jumping off this bank.

But on the way back it jumped the bank perfectly.

This horse says "Oh, look! Shiny thing over there!"

Showing the whole fence. They jump the left side then come back over the right a few fences later.

A few speed freaks now who went like the clappers over this bank.

William Fox-Pitt, I only know that because he lost his hat cover part way round. Up and over the bank like it wasn't there.

This one almost ended in disaster when he didn't go over the lowest point but *through* a taller section instead.

This horse jumps corners like they are tiny little cross poles.

It was a nice horse, shame it didn't do better in the dressage.

I think this horse was waving to everyone as it jumped up the bank. Its legs were all over the place, but it made it.

"How to jump the bank and make it look easy" by Mark Todd

But then he refused the very next fence :(

The horses really could get up a good gallop in the stadium as it was so big.

His horse decided this corner was better jumped like the bank...

and it caused this to happen. Oops, collapsed the fence. Mark was later eliminated for taking the wrong course.

They tried to repair the fence but the judges wouldn't have it back in use with the repair so it was taken out of use.

This horse hit the bank at speed but did a flying round all the way around.

Think this horse was about ready to put on the brakes when it saw it had to jump down again back off the bank!

But amazingly it cleared the next fence easily.

Eventual winner, Olly Townend. That lad seriously has no understanding of fear! The round was amazing to watch. His horse was taking off a stride away from fences and just galloping at them and clearing every jump.

How this horse managed to spring up onto his feet I do not know, but it did, skipped across the top, launched off the top and carried on to win the event.

Mary King on Cavvi. They had a cracking round... until a bit later on. Not posting any more photos from her jumping round. Don't ask.

The winner, Olly Townend, celebrating being £100,000 richer.
