Have you ever been so aware of your heart beating that it becomes the only sound you can hear?
Having someone in your life for so long - so many meals, so many cozy nights, so much wasted time - it results in something very much like a chemical reaction. Our separate lives are no longer separate; we are fused together and it becomes comforting - the dependability of it all.
And it is very dangerous.
Pulling apart two lives that had been so united by time does not give back what was originally put in. Like removing the price sticker from a shiny new purchase, remnants are left behind. Shards of who you used to be leave you as your partner leaves you, and they leave behind splinters that prevent you from moving on.
Suddenly your favorite songs are unbearable. Your favorite shows. Your favorite places. Your very way of life - there is nothing that is left untainted.
Want more than anything for things to return to the way things were, but they will not.
This is the broken glass world I live in.
