Chapter 9

As I a sat on our usual spot in our favorite coffee shop, alone, sporting a large cup of cold coffee, I let my mind wander. I stared at the empty seat in front of me that’s usually occupied by Jaejoong. I held back tears because I was too ashamed. I was in a public place and I can’t let anyone see me like this. I would look more of a loser than I already am.

At this point I don’t know what I’m gonna decide. This is truly a heavy burden for me. To choose between your own happiness and the happiness of the one you loved. To be selfish or not to be I really don’t know.

I was halfway through my coffee when my phone rang. It was a call from Tiffany. I picked up the phone

“Minster, where are you?” she asked. “I’m worried about you. Let’s talk.”

“I’m in our usual place Tiff. Just drinking coffee,” I replied.

“Stay there I’m coming over.”

“OK. See you,” I said.

It didn’t take her too long to arrive. To my surprise she wasn’t alone. The whole gang was with her with the exception of Jaejoong and Yunho. I sensed an intervention.

“Hey guys,” I greeted. I was so glad they came.

“Minnie-ah,” Yoona said as she kissed my cheek.

“What are you guys doing here?” I asked when they were all settled in their seats, drinks in hand.

“I told you earlier, we’re worried,” replied Tiffany.

“Yeah, you’re not your cheerful self anymore,” Jessica added.

“Well it is obvious why you’re acting like this,” Junsu interjected. “It’s because of Jaejoong, isn’t it?”

I sighed then nodded. I was thankful that they weren’t completely clueless about it.

“What did he do this time?” Yoochun asked.

I told them the complete story, all the while wondering to myself why I haven’t done this before. When I came to the Yunho-Jaejoong part Tiffany reacted which I knew she would.

“Yunho? Really?!?” she scoffed. “I knew Jaejoong was into guys. I knew the first moment we kissed. And Yunho, oh my goodness, the two-timing bitch.”

“Stay calm Tiffany,” I said jokingly.

“Oh I’m calm,” she said. “I wasn’t surprised at all. Poor Leeteuk though. Does he know?”

“No I don’t think so,” I replied.

“So let me get this straight,” Yoochun started.

“No one’s straight anymore,” Tiffany interjected.

The entire table laughed and I was able to laugh with them. My heart was feeling lighter every second I was with them. At that moment I felt so blessed that I have friends such as them.

“I can’t believe it though,” Jessica mused all of a sudden. “I mean how could Jaejoong put you through all of this? You’re his friend. He’s just asking too much of you.”

“I’ve been asking myself the same question,” I said.

“Well one thing’s for sure you should snap out of it,” Yoochun said to me.

“I try. I do. It’s easier said than done,”

“Of course it is,” Junsu said. “And it is gonna be a long road ahead of you.”

“I know that,” I replied. “What I don’t get though is why would Jaejoong do this? I thought he loved me. Well you all saw that; the way he treats me, the times when were always together, all that crap. And then suddenly, poof, he tells me he’s in love with Yunho. And that’s another thing, Yunho. Why Yunho? OK that’s not a good question I admit but Jaejoong knew I was in love with Yunho for so long and he knows everything about it but still he does this. Sometimes I think he’s doing it on purpose. I just feel so torn right now.”

The entire table fell silent as they all saw tears slide down my cheeks.

“Oh Minster,” said Tiffany as she stood up and gave me a hug. “Everything would be fine. Just don’t worry about it too much. You’ll get wrinkles.”

“Yeah stop crying Changmin,” Junsu said.

“Thank you guys so much. For showing up and surprising me,” I said. “And let me apologize for thinking that sometimes I’m alone in this world and I forget that you guys are always here for me.”

“Well don’t you forget that Minster,” Tiffany said. “And the next time you forget that again I’m gonna be so mad at you.”

“I won’t Tiff, I promise.”

“Let’s go get some dinner guys, I’m starving,” Yoona said.

And with that we all got up from our seats and proceeded outside to debate on where we would eat.

“Jaejoong…” Yunho started but Jaejoong cut him off.

“I’m sorry Yunho, but this is the only way I can be sure that what we’re doing is right.”

Jaejoong and Yunho were sitting inside a restaurant having dinner. Yunho was on the verge of tears. He doesn’t like what he’s hearing.

“So you’re putting our relationship in the hands of Changmin?” he asked incredulously.

“It’s not just that,” Jaejoong answered. “You know Changmin is like family to me.”

“Changmin is in love with you, Jaejoong. And he could ruin everything for us.”

“Yunho, I know that. And I love you, but I can’t lose Changmin either,”

“You can’t have everything in this world Jaejoong,” Yunho said angrily. And with that he walked out of the restaurant and left Jaejoong to his thoughts.
