[Today, April is now one year older and she... doesn't really care, actually. Birthdays aren't really celebrated back home, the only difference is that they drink more on birthdays, and April does enough of that already, so she carries on the day as normal. But as she walks past the pet store on her way home from work, she spots a puppy in the ( Read more... )

[Hatter walks by twice. The first time, he gives a little wave, grins, and keeps going on his way to visit Alice.

The second time, he walks backwards, eyes wide.]

IS THAT A PUPPY?

[He dashes over and practically power-slides on his knees in front of the little dog.]

It is a puppy!

[She can't help but laugh as Hatter more or less power-slides in front of her, while Franklin barks happily at seeing him.] Yep, I've, um, called her Mira!

[Then she holds the happily yapping puppy out to Hatter.] Do you want to hold her?

[Of course, he gives Franklin a happy grin and a pat on the head. But, there was a puppy.]

Hello, there, Mira!

[He nearly snatches the dog out of her hands, and holds it up a bit like Simba.]

You're adorable. Where'd you get 'er, my brilliant platonic wife?

[Without really waiting for an answer, he holds her out toward Franklin with both hands.]

What do you think, boy? Good choice, eh?

[Ok, it's really hard not to grin when she see's how excited he is about Mira. When he holds to puppy to Franklin, he gives a bark in agreement before giving the puppy an affectionate nudge with his noise, which cause more happy yapping from Mira.] I got her from the pet store, and the guy there told me she's going to get really big when she gets older!

[All the better to hug people with, is her primary thought.]

[He beamed happily.] Brilliant. I love big dogs. And electric dogs. Big, electric doggies.

No reason? Just thought 'think I'll pop down the pet shop and buy a dog today'?

[She smiles kinda sheepishly.] Well, I walked past the pet shop when I was walking back from work and I saw Mira in the window, and I couldn't resist...

And, uh, I've been wanting to get a dog for a while too and since it's my birthday, I thought 'why not'?

Your birthday? Shoulda said something! C'mon, let's go get you a present.

These happen much less frequently than unbirthdays.

Ah, b-birthdays aren't really celebrated where I'm from, s-so you don't have to- [Wait, what?] ... Unbirthdays?

Yeah, unbirthdays. Where I'm from, people loved birthdays, but they only came once a year. So, the queen decided to start celebrating her unbirthdays. Quite the popular trend among the rich.

[Grin.]

Come along!

Ah, I see...

[Blinks at him, before nodding. She doesn't see the point, but she has a feeling that arguing with him would go nowhere.]

Um, o-okay!

[He holds out a hand to tug her up off the bench, her puppy quite commandeered under one of his arms.]

Brilliant. What d'you want? We're pretty stocked up on booze back home, so I think I'll leave that option out.
