Making up for lost time

Yesterday afternoon was great. (Noticing a theme in my recent posts? Mornings suck, afternoons / evenings are great. This is not a coincidence.)

First, I went over to Youth Employment Services to meet with my career councellor. This was actually my first councelling session in a month, and I was on the verge of walking in a telling her to cancel the whole program. But she gave me a lot of good advice, was a good sounding board, and didn't seem too dismayed when I told her I wouldn't be doing much for the rest of the summer. Her reply was, "that's okay. You should be mostly doing information-gathering and networking right now anyway." Also, she liked my Statement of Teaching Philosophy. (If anyone is interested, I'll post it. If not, I won't.) We scheduled another appointment for three weeks hence.

Afterwards, I went over to Yan's place for tea and conversation. I realized I am very, very out of practice in being around Yan, especially now that he's been working at Melange and is a little powerhouse of energy. In response to my desperate begging requests, he's going to start recommending me books. We share, if not the exact same paradigm, then at least the foundations of our paradigm, and I trust him to recommend me books that fit it. So, cheri, I'm looking at you! I should be by tonight after karate. (A peu pres 20h.)

In the evening, Ian joined us to play some Betrayal at the House on the Hill. How I love that game! Two rounds, one with me as the traitor. In neither case did the traitor win... it wasn't even a close thing. But that's okay. It was fun anyway.

In one final point, I'm finding it absolutely wonderful that I have so much time for reading. For the first time this year, I'm actually tracking all the books I've read, so that I can look back later and remind myself. After a very disappointing three months of only two books each, June already has 5, and I'm starting another today. (Should be good. It's called In the Devil's Garden: A Sinful History of Forbidden Food by Stewart Lee Allen. It's the second of four books I lifted off LC this past weekend.) Other than the George R.R. Martin books, almost none of it has been fiction, which is very weird for me. But enjoyable, despite that.

Anyway, the time is now 8:15 and I must away to work. Only five weeks and 2 days left. Sigh.

tea, job hunt, gaming, daily update, friends, books
