Surprising news
Tonight for our Monday dinner out, before J and D and DG headed off to play Magic, we were joined by our friend JC, who is visiting with his family; they showed up just before we left as well. They now live in Iowa but are here for about a week, and we'll see them more tomorrow.

The author writes a column in the Washington Post and I believe is also regularly on CNN; he name-drops a variety of famous people and writes knowledgeably about politics and economics. The Song of Achilles, by Madeline Miller. This wonderful and beautifully written novel is the story of The Iliad from the perspective of Patroclus, the lover and soulmate of Achilles. What one might do on a rainy Friday
I got my tdap shot today - tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis. My last tetanus shot had been in May 2014, so it had expired, and although I got my childhood vaccinations, we have a fairly high number of people with pertussis in our county (250 or so), so it seemed best to be safe. Atwood, Sorin, and something called a bomb cyclone
Today I got to watch a livestreamed conversation with Margaret Atwood, who is visiting Oregon State. She turned 85 yesterday but it's obvious that her brain is doing great.
