4-day weekend, FTW
Took Thurs and Fri off from work last week. The 4-day weekend rocks. Didn't get a whole lot done, but slept a lot, read 2 books, caught up on some miscellaneous TV, and just enjoyed being not-at-work. Note to self: take time off more often.
Talked to my mother this morning. After the drama with NQH's mother last week, I really appreciate my mom and her general normal-ness. I told her about the drama, and then said how much I appreciated that she and I have our own lives and our boundaries, and we respect that, but still get along well. There's no hurt feelings if I don't invite her on my vacation. She laughed and said she appreciated it too, and was glad she's not one of "those" mothers.
Anyway, Mum was updating me on the house-buying craziness. She and her husband found a house, signed the papers, and were supposed to start moving in on Friday. Turns out that the previous owner: 1) Didn't clean the floors (and has 2 dogs and a cat), 2) left a fridge full of food, and 3) had the power turned off - so now the fridge is full of rotting food.
I've read about stuff like this, but never actually met anyone it had happened to. So Mum got to spend the weekend cleaning up someone else's dog hair, throwing out someone else's leftovers, and doing it in the dark because the power company can't restore electricity until Tues. Fortunately, my mom is maintaining a great sense of humor about all this, and does not get offended at my schadenfreude.
