Okay, so remember the boy who poked me on facebook a bit ago, and I read his lj, and he's a nymphomaniac (and possibly bisexual)? Well, he's been sitting closer to me in class ever since the symposium (where we "met"), and so I looked at his livejournal again to see if he'd mentioned it (to see if it was intentional or if it was just a coincidence ( Read more... )

If it makes you feel any better, I have a history of attracting weird guys, too. (One was an ex-druggie who considered "breaking things" to be one of his hobbies.) I actually started to worry about what these attractions said about me as a person, at least until Adam came along.

We're nice girls! Really, we are! I know it. So what's going on? Yay for Adam. :)

Maybe the weird ones are there to make us appreciate the good ones that show up eventually. :)

Kathryn, since the fiction book I'm trying to write has a weird stalker character, could you by any chance document this all for my research?

Don't look at me that way. Seriously, I'm worried sick.

(If you die, could you make sure to write all this down soon so I have everything?)

All joking aside, I do hope for the best for you. I'd just set the record straight with him: you're not interested. Period. The sooner you tell him, the better.

I hate working on busy nights. Will that blasted phone never stop ringing?

I'll be sure to keep a log of all my frightening stalker experiences, seal it and address it to "Jason, the friend turned fiction writer." That way when he abducts me, you can be the official keeper of the document, effective upon my disappearance.

Oh, ick. I think at this point, your best bet is just to try to avoid him for the last 3 meetings of that class. I'll make sure Kurt knows to walk out with you and not to skip so you can sit together etc. With any luck you just won't see him again after the final, or at least not for a while, by which time he'll probably have moved on. Whatever you do, be very clear if he makes any more advances. Just say "No, sorry" and walk away. Don't look him in the eye much and try not to smile. You don't have to be mean, just honest in your disinterest. And if he does say something obviously innappropriate, seriously tell him to screw off and leave the scene immediately.

Your show-him-my-disinterest strategy seems like it might be the most likely course of action. I mean, I'd love to be able to just tell someone to screw off and never bother me again, but I've had problems doing that in the past (i.e. psycho ex-boyfriend from high school... did I ever tell you that story?). I took a step in the right direction today - I definitely pretended I didn't notice that he was sitting two seats closer to me than his normal seat (two seats closer is better than sitting right next to me, which is what he did on Friday, the day of my story, but I still wasn't very happy about it). I'll try to keep not noticing. :)

Here's a possible solution to your problem: If he's a facebook friend of yours, rescind your friendship. That would make it pretty clear. Although I do like Jason's solution better, for some reason I don't see you telling him straight up.

I would, but fortunately, I was wise enough not to add him to my friends list, which is what, I'm sure, he hoped would happen as a result of his poking me.

It's a good idea, though!!
