Saw DaVinci Code

And I really have no idea what the reviewers are talking about because it was a great movie.  I maintain that Tom Hanks is not and never will be Robert Langdon, but the rest of the cast was pretty close to what I pictured.  Okay, maybe not Sophie either, but it wasn't a major issue for me.  Major props for staying almost exactly to the book and fitting in a hell of a lot in 2.5 hours.  There were a few moments when you were like, wait, what?  That totally didn't happen.  Or when some things were skipped, but you can't really expect them to fit the entire book into a movie.  I saw with my mom who hated it because the "atmosphere" was gone, but I thought they did a pretty good job of capturing it.  Sure, a lot of atmospheric shots of the Louvre and paintings and scenery were cut to make room for the ginormous amounts of plot, but the book *is* plot.  It's not about the characters, or about romance or whatever.  This is a plotty book, and they got the plot across without butchering it, so all in all a very enjoyable movie.

It actually made me really want to reread the book to get the full experience again, so there you go.  The people sitting behind me were muttering (loudly) about how much worse than the book it was but really people, what do you expect?  I can count on one hand the number of movies that have been better than the books that they were based on.  You can't go into a movie expecting it to live up to those kinds of expectations.
