I need to vent.

Most people that know me know that i'm a sucker for a happy ending.  I don't deny this - I really am one of those people that checks the end of a book before she picks it up.  Crap, half the people reading this just ran off screaming, didn't they?  Anyway, the point is that i'm not going to deny the fact that I like reading/watching things that end well, and that when the ending sucks I can't be bothered to find out how the characters got there.  This is important because I know i'm not an unbiased POV in the happy vs. unhappy ending debate.  But, especially after reading comments at the Grey's writers' blog sites, I need to get this down.

Since when does something become meaningful and deep just because it's sad?

Seriously people, this makes no sense.  I'm not putting in any Grey's spoilers, but those who watched know what i'm talking about.  There is such a thing as a happy ending that is noble and beautiful and not corny.  Where people live and do good things, and don't go out in a blaze of glory.  To make something meaningful there doesn't *have* to be death and tears, and it's completely possible for a tragic ending to still be completely moronic.

There was no point in having Denny die.  Everyone keeps saying, "Denny HAD to die."  No, he fucking didn't have to die.  What did him dying accomplish?  Their relationship became oh so cool because it has tearjerker ending, and Izzie became conflicted.  What would have happened had he and Izzie went off somewhere and been happy?  Their relationship would still have been cool, and Izzie would still have become conflicted.  Yes, really.  There was no point to his death, and more than anything that's been bugging me ever since I saw the finale.  That and people who won't shut up about how had he lived it wouldn't have had the same effect, and the audience would have hated it.

Every single show i've watched has ended badly.  There has seriously not been one exception, and for the life of me I can't figure out what's so wrong with just letting people be happy at the end of the day.  At least someone, on at least one show, has to be happy.  Drama is awesome, angst is great, but not everyone's life ends in a tragic tearjerker that raises ratings for the next season.  Just please, let someone end up happy.
