Movies!

May 03, 2006 12:23

It's been a long time since I've done one of these, mostly because a) I haven't had time to see movies, and b) movies have been mostly made of suck recently. If there are any movies not here that you think are going to be good, let me know. If you think any are goint to be real stinkers, seriously, let me know. I don't want to see bad movies.

Agreed with the Must See section even though I really don't think Superman needs a remake. But if the Bats gets one, then I suppose it's only fair.

As an admirer of freaky religious conspiracies, I hesitate to see The Davinci Code. But I pushed myself through the book (because a gun was held to my head) and I have to say...it's not bad. Not particularly good, but not...too...bad. The only reason I find myself wanting to see the film is because Ian McKellen plays a significant role. Whether he is playing a Wizard trying to save the world or a mad mutant out to destroy it, he is quite worthy of a two hour film. He may, in fact, save it.

And Romeo & Juliet with seals?? Someone stole my idea! Darn, now it's back to the drawing board...chimpanzees maybe? Or how about jellyfish? Oooh, I know! Lemmings! ;-)

Superman only gets a restart because DC needs to compete with Marvel on the movie front. Time for the big guns.

I thought Da Vinci Code was an okay book. The idea was interesting enough, but the whole thing was not the most well written.

Ian McKellen makes just about everything better.

Well, take heart in the fact that R&J with seals is going to be the weirdest thing ever.

fern gully was a good movie. especially since they made the enviromentalist message work (and to be honest i didn't get it when i was 6, nor did most 6 year olds). Hoot is just plain going to suck...they didn't even try hide the message or make it interesting...i might as well just go to a lecture on owl conservation, honestly. and i'd probably get a free dinner, rather than have to pay to see the stupid movie. Also, fern gully had robin williams.

i think superman is going to be horrible...every comic book movie except the x-men series and spiderman 1 has been absolutely horrendous....and i would like for them to just end please. x-men is also going to suck because they dropped nightcrawler to make more room for halle berry's storm, which is one of the most horribly acted characters ever to grace the big screen. Shoot me please.

also, what about snakes on a plane you KNOW that's going to be amazing....hahaha

Hmm, Robin Williams is enough to forgive any fault (unless he is the fault, which occasionally occurs).

I have a fondness for comic books movies, so I can't agree entirely. I'm upset they got rid of Nightcrawler, though. He's been my favorite character for a long time.

Storm's hair looks awful. Almost as awful as her acting will be.

Snakes on a Muthereffing Plane is not yet eligible for the lovin', as it comes out in August.

getting rid of nightcrawler was a huge mistake...he was the best part of the second movie. Except for the part where he hit on his mom (Mystique) because that was just plain creepy.

i honestly considered bludgeoning halle berry during pre-production, so then they would pick up jada pinkett smith instead. i decided jail was not worth it however (kidding, obviously). but JPS really would have made a better storm.

i consider august summer....which is why i was confused about it not being on the list. but its all good.

I was so happy when I heard that Halle Berry was considering not coming back because she didn't do ensemble casts anymore (Lady, if Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart do ensemble casts, you're not too good for 'em). And then she came back. Damn.

I consider August summer too, but I usually do these things in three month blocks, and I messed myself up by not doing them for so long. August just got left out. Besides, I'll need something to talk about when the dead months that follow August start creeping up.

Snakes on a Plane will be the best movie EVAH! I predict it now. Having said that, am I the only one who thinks it would be even better if it were Romeo and Juliet with Navy Seals? Imagine the possibilities!

You mean it's NOT?

This list is the first I've heard of R&J:SWAK, and I just assumed (probably because of the capitalization Evadne used) that it was with Navy SEALs.

Good lord, you mean it's with REAL seals? *headdesks violently*

Whoops, sorry. The SEALS was just for emphasis. But Navy SEALS would better way better.

SOAP will be the best movie ever in August, so it will get it's loving then.

R&J would be greatly improved with Navy SEALS. Best adaption idea ever.

In complete agreement on all, with the exception I will be going to see MI:3 just because...because...okay, it's a spy movie. Plus, I have a fascination with movies near certain to be train wrecks.

And as for The Da Vinci Code, Tom Hanks in this movie is just NO. I hate the book, but I read it (and cried at how what could've been a really interesting book was killed by sucky writing). When a guy is described as "Harrison Ford in harris tweed," it should be taken as a hint to cast Harrison Ford, not Tom "I must do a terrible accent in every movie I'm in" Hanks.

Or maybe I should just see a therapist about my hatred of Tom Hanks. And Dan Brown.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who thinks that Harrison Ford should have been cast in this.

I read the book, but as soon as the Holy Grail was mentioned, I couldn't help but giggle through the rest of it.

That's a great icon.

Well, if you see MI:3 for the spy movie quality, that's different. It's like seeing James Bond no matter how shitty the Bond is.

I don't hate Tom Hanks, but I think he is totally wrong for the part. I do hate Dan Brown, though not for that particular book. Though, maybe I'm disappointed his not that great writing was such a best seller.

I can't wait to see X-Men. I had no idea that they're making a movie based on a Philip K. Dick story. I hope that turns out well.

ps - I love your edited note at the end :)

I really hope Scanner Darkly turns out well. The preview looks way cool.

I had to put the note, or I would be spending this entire post explaining why the Snakes was not on the list. OF COURSE, I'm going to see it. Snakes on a Plane!

On the bright side, Scanner Darkly can't be worse than Total Recall because nothing is worse than Total Recall. Minority Report wasn't too bad as a movie but it was not the best adaptation.
