Movie Review: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Jan 16, 2006 14:29

I saw this movie about three weeks ago, but I’d like to hear what everyone else thought of it. Personally, I liked it a great deal; my mother called it “LotR-Lite” (literally called it that, with abbreviations and implied misspellings included) and I’m still not sure if this is a good or bad thing; my friend Marty raged at White Witch’s costumes; ( Read more... )

Yes, Mr. Tumnus was absolutely adorable -- he has the prettiest eyes!

I've been waiting to see what you thought of the movie; I personally think it may be the best movie I've ever seen. At the very least, it's in my top five of all time (along with the three LOTRs and The Princess Bride). Glad you enjoyed it.

Allegedly, they will soon be starting work on Prince Caspian. That's going to be great to see.

Prince Caspian was never my favorite book, but it didn't drive me crazy like some of the others. I'll be really glad when it does come out because that'll mean my favorite will be next!

I dunno if this will get into my favorites of all time. I'll have to wait until I get the video and watch it a few times. But it certainly has potential.

Yeah, the kids behind me in the theater totally didn't get it either. Tilda Swinton was fantastically evil. I agree, I never really liked her outfit till the battle scene. And then I just loved the polar bears. It was a great movie.

I kind of get kids not getting it (depending on how old), because it admittedly took me awhile too.

The polar bears were awesome. I mean, I wouldn't hitch my chariot up to artic animals in a spring/summer climate, but more power to the White Witch for doing so!

Actually I think you were right the first time, since you said "lack of." I got what you meant, though, and I totally agree. After a certain age, how does one not recognize the most prominent Western metaphor EVER? But this may just be my English major-self speaking.

Turkish Delight is gross. Really, really gross. It doesn't even look yummy, as evidenced by the movie.

I guess Caspian needed a Princely Instruction Manual if he didn't know that.

Yay, a review! mysterymeg January 16 2006, 13:03:28 UTC
The Witch's outfits were the main problem I had with the movie...except her Sacrificial getup--I totally wanted to wear that. But her white gown just looked silly. Really silly.

And Edmund kicks so much arse. I loved him in the book, and I loved him more in the movie. (It didn't hurt that the actor who played grown-up King Edmund was a hunk.)

The Sacrificial dress was ridiculously cool.

Yeah, the white gown was pretty awful. She looked so cool otherwise, but that dress!

Edmund was kicking in the movie. And I'm pleased to think he's only going to get better.

Oh, dear. I didn't think adult Edmund was that hot. I guess I'll have to look again.

I loved loved loved this movie. And I fully admit I got teary-eyed more than once. When I heard they were making a movie out of LW&W, I was a little trepiditious (is that a word?), but I think they came as close to perfect as was possible, bar a few nitpicky things that don't even bear mentioning.

I saw an interview with Tilda Swinton saying that she wanted to come back for The Magician's Nephew. How awesome would that be?

Aw, The Last Battle was always my favorite! But then I was a kind of morbid little kid.

"Trepidatious" isn't a real word...yet. Some people use it, but it's not official lexicon at this time. "Anxious" is probably the closest "real" word for it.

It would be great if Swinton came back for Nephew. I guiltly admit to wanting her to come back as the Green Witch in Silver Chair.

Drat! I thought it looked funny.

Oh, now that would be awesome. I could see her doing a fantastic job there. Unfortunately though, it'd probably make all the non-readers think she was the same character. But she does make an excellent witch, doesn't she?

Since I've heard readers question whether the Green Witch is the White Witch, it probably wouldn't be anything new.

I've always wondered what was up with the Green Witch. She's from the same stock in the North, right? Is she from Charn? Is she a Jinn/Giant too? Did the Witch reproduce? And with whom?
