Movie Review: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I saw this movie about three weeks ago, but I’d like to hear what everyone else thought of it. Personally, I liked it a great deal; my mother called it “LotR-Lite” (literally called it that, with abbreviations and implied misspellings included) and I’m still not sure if this is a good or bad thing; my friend Marty raged at White Witch’s costumes; ( Read more... )

I loved loved loved this movie. And I fully admit I got teary-eyed more than once. When I heard they were making a movie out of LW&W, I was a little trepiditious (is that a word?), but I think they came as close to perfect as was possible, bar a few nitpicky things that don't even bear mentioning.

I saw an interview with Tilda Swinton saying that she wanted to come back for The Magician's Nephew. How awesome would that be?

Aw, The Last Battle was always my favorite! But then I was a kind of morbid little kid.

"Trepidatious" isn't a real word...yet. Some people use it, but it's not official lexicon at this time. "Anxious" is probably the closest "real" word for it.

It would be great if Swinton came back for Nephew. I guiltly admit to wanting her to come back as the Green Witch in Silver Chair.

Drat! I thought it looked funny.

Oh, now that would be awesome. I could see her doing a fantastic job there. Unfortunately though, it'd probably make all the non-readers think she was the same character. But she does make an excellent witch, doesn't she?

Since I've heard readers question whether the Green Witch is the White Witch, it probably wouldn't be anything new.

I've always wondered what was up with the Green Witch. She's from the same stock in the North, right? Is she from Charn? Is she a Jinn/Giant too? Did the Witch reproduce? And with whom?

Good point.

I don't see how she could be from Charn as well, unless she IS the White Witch. I guess I've always just sort of assumed that Lewis didn't really plan his books out that far in advance to that level of detail and that Jadis' background was a bit of retconning on his part (though I fully admit I've never looked into it very far either).

Personally, I just assumed the Witch got some followers or something, because the Green Witch was pretty pathetic in comparison.

Good call. She was a bit weak, though she'd have to be pretty hardcore to stand up to comparison with someone who held the freaking weather under her power.

Held the weather under her power for one hundred freaking years no less! Uh-HUH.

Can't touch that, man. Unless you're big, hairy, and feline, I suppose.
