Harry Potter Notes

I finished HBP a few days ago (yes, slow, I know), but was too busy to say anything about it. In all honesty, I don't have too much to say anyway.

9) R.A.B.? Is this someone we already know or a new character? Because the only person I can think of with an R.B. is Regulus Black, and that would piss me off for randomness. Though it would explain why he died so damn quick.

Most people I've seen discussing it are pretty sure it's him - there've been mentions of something from OotP, where Harry and the others were cleaning Grimmauld Place and discovered a "heavy locket which none of them could open."

Wouldn't it be beautiful if that were a complete red herring? That's totally the kind of thing Rowling would do.

then again, so is having something inconsequential from a former book used as a major plot point later on. she might have underestimated the scrutiny of her fans.

or she might not have. ;)

I might prefer the red herring. Otherwise, it's getting into the realm of way too clever, having someone mentioned once or twice before turn out to be a huge, plot point defining character.

Though completely contradicting everything we know about a character would be Rowling's style.

I was talking with someone about this very thing today. Have you noticed how much EVERYONE looks into the Harry Potter books? To the point where they think two things are both likely, and they TOTALLY CONDTRADICT EACH OTHER. I like that these books make you think, and speculate, even to the point where you just confuse yourself silly ( ... )

If RAB is Regulus Black, I think one of the Horcruxes was in the black house. When they were cleaning, they did come across a locket, remember...

That would make sense to me because it is now Harry that needs to find the Horcruxes. He doesn't have the research capabilities of Dumbledore, so I suspect that Harry (and likely the audience too) already has nearly all the info necessary to find the remaining ones.

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was the best one since Prisoner of Azkaban, which is still my favourite (for shallow reasons, like it's got more Remus and nobody dies). Yeah, I saw Dumbledore's demise coming too, although it got to the point where I desperately hoped it wouldn't happen, and I cried my eyes out when it did.

Snape is finally a bona-fide evil b*******! It's great!

The romance was well done in this one, I thought, though it's never the main point in the books. I liked the way it happened.

Also there was a lot of humour in the start and middle of the book. I can't remember anything specific, but I do know I giggled a helluva lot while I was reading it.

I agree that this was my favorite since PoA (I can't decided if it or CoS is my absolute favorite). I figured Dumbledore had to die eventually, and end of book deaths are more dramatic. And Dumbledore deserved the most dramatic death possible.

I'm really glad Snape is just plain evil now. Though, I'm sure something could come along to change that.

I mean, you can be cunning, manipulative, and only looking out for number one without being a genocidal maniac.

Agreed. I always thought, for that very reason, that Lockhart was probably a Slytherin.

Part of me would just like Snape to stay evil because I've been expecting him to be good since book one. For me, this book is a big turnaround, and another turn around so soon would feel contrived. Plus, I have no idea what could cause another turnaround since he's already killed Dumbledore, who seemed like the person most likely to save him. Now I'm only holding out hope that there's some kind of Peter Pettigrew - Severus Snape showdown (because Peter owes Harry big time), and the two turncoats duking it out would be interesting to me ( ... )

1. Agreed. 2. Agreed. 3. Yeah, that was kind of lame. And what, really, did it have to do with the plot? I was expecting more. 4. Me too. 5. Eh...I still think he's with the Order. I think there's more going on there and we'll find out in Book 7. 6. Yeah, weirdness. He reminded me a bit of Mr. Collins in Pride and Prejudice. 7. Thank you! I mean, I was glad they hooked up but it I think JK could have explained Harry's feelings a bit more. 8. Ah, Draco. Poor Draco. 9. Yeah, Regulus seems like a forerunner in my discussions with my friends. 10. I don't know about the Horcrux stuff. I also thought that Harry was one. But any theorizing about it makes my head start to hurt, so I don't :)

I agree that I was expecting more out of "The Half-Blood Prince" because his name was in the title. It sort of makes sense after you've read the book, because Snape is such an important character. But the actual "Half-Blood Prince" title amounts to nothing.

I can't decided if it will be better or worse if Snape is still with the Order. Because what kind of rationalization would he have for killing Dumbledore? I'm just hoping for a Pettigrew-Snape showdown.

My fiance and I theorized that Snape had a type of unbreakable vow with Dumbledore that if it came down to worse-case scenerio, Snape would kill Dumbledore. Or it could just be that Snape did it because of his unbreakable vow with Narcissa. Pettigrew and Snape would be awesome--I so want Snape to lay the smack down on Peter, ha ha.

In case you didn't know, the new Entertainment Weekly has a lovely HP spread, with a small Good Snape vs. Bad Snape debate. Quite interesting.

PS--Love the breadboxes, I usually have tears rolling down my face from laughing so hard :)

I think I am the only person in Creation who wants Peter to take down Snape because it would the vindication of the Marauders.

There was a Entertainment Weekly spread! Man, I wish my roommate and her celebrity magazines were still around!
