Had orientation today. It was largely useless, except that I got to meet all the faculty in my department. Except for the professor I am working for...
That's right. You're looking at the new TA for COMM 100. The other girl who's TAing got COMM 373, a junior level course. But, nooooooo. I get the freshman class. I want to hurt something. I'm also going to be a research assistant, but leading discussion in a 100 level Communications course? You realize the shit I will have to grade in that class? The same people that write unintelligibly in on-line forums will be attempting to explain theory concepts they barely understand. And I will be responsible for telling them how much they suck.
(Yeah, I realize even smart people have to take 100 level classes, but seriously...only about 10% of people know how to write coming into college. My POLS 175 TA loved me because I was one of about three people who could explain what a "catch-all political party" was. C'mon people. "Catch-all." The explanation is in its freakin' name!)
But, man, this was a long day. Orientation lasted all day. And they felt the need to explain financial aid to us. I wanted to say, "We're here already! We wouldn't be here if we didn't know what FAFSA was!". Maybe I was just cranky because the orientation was moving into it's fifth hour at that point.
And don't even get me started on the tax forms I had to fill out.
All right, done ranting. Move on to the fanfiction I put up.
