sick day

Jason goes to play Pathfinder every other Tuesday. Yesterday was one such Tuesday.

So it figures that yesterday night is the night where Zach starts throwing up. :( Dinner went fine, pizza, fruit and milk for the kids. They sat still at the table (relatively for Maddy, but hey, I only had to remind her once not to get up and walk around for random things) and watched some Dora and Bubble Guppies while I cleaned up. Fairly average Tuesday night. When it was time for Zach to get ready for bed, I sent the kids ahead to start brushing their teeth and I was putting one last thing away in the dishwasher. By the time I get to the bathroom, Zach had taken a bite of the Chapstick I gave him when he wanted to put on something like Maddy and I do. I got out the bit on his lips and tossed it aside. That was when he gave me this look, opened his mouth and out came a bit of partially digested dinner. The poor kid started to cry, and I got him cleaned up, Maddy helped him brush his teeth while I scrubbed the floor a little, and he went down to bed. He didn't stay there for long, and was up and down for a while.

Zach's bedtime is at 7, Maddy's is 8 pm. As Maddy was getting ready for bed, Zach was wailing and crying, so I went in to give him some cuddles before putting him back to bed.

He threw up over the both of us, of course.

So Maddy kept an eye on him after I took our soiled stuff off and I could go get some Oxyclean and the bucket in the garage to start soaking the mess. She helped get some paper towels, too, and helped Zach brush his teeth again. After some new PJ's, he went back to bed and I helped Maddy go to bed. I didn't rub her back that long so I could scrub out the little runner carpet we have in the bathroom again. And then Zach was getting out of bed and crying. This went on for a few more minutes, and then he wailed he wanted apple juice. I figured that was gentle enough for his stomach and might help with some electrolytes. He had a little in the kitchen, and after five minutes when nothing came back up, I helped walk him back to bed.

Where he promptly threw up on his bed and the floor.

So, new set of PJ's, new sheets, more stuff soaking in the bucket in the bathroom, more scrubbing of carpet. I did it by hand with a sponge because I didn't want to take too long for the little shampooer to warm up. By the time I had all that done, Zach was calm and not freaking out while sitting in a little chair. Jason got home by this time, and he went to get the shampooer and work on that. Back into bed with Zach, and he managed to doze off into a fitful sleep.

And as Jason checked on him before going to bed, Zach was coughing and threw up in bed. And the floor, as we got him out of bed.

So Jason wound up helping to get all the soiled stuff out of the bed, and I put all of it in the baby cycle in the washing machine. Jason shampooed the carpet and kept Zach sitting upright for a bit, then we brought him to the kitchen for a bit. He had some Pedialyte that came up a minute later, this time we caught it in the bucket. Afterward Zach cuddled me on my chest and I tried to call one of the secretaries at work. (My turn to call in sick, since Jason did that two weeks ago.) After shampooing the carpet, Jason went off to bed since he's working today. I put Zach to bed and sat next to him for a while. That helped him drop off to sleep, and when he woke up agitated, I soothed him back to sleep. By the time he slept through an hour, it was almost time for the load of laundry to be switched over, so I stayed up to switch it over and then headed to bed myself. It was about 12:30 am at that point, and I already knew there was no way in hell I was going to wake up at a quarter to 5 and get on the treadmill. That decision was confirmed when less than two hours later, Zach got up, all upset that his diaper was wet. I changed him, went back to bed for about two hours when my alarm went off. Jason made fun of me at first for sleeping through it, but stopped when I told him how little sleep I got.

So far, it's been 40 minutes of no vomiting after some apple juice this morning. He's more active than I'd like, running from his room to the kitchen to ask for more, but he's acting like himself right now. Maybe he just ate something bad for dinner last night, though Maddy didn't think the fruit tasted off. Either way, if he continues to be like this, I can try crackers or mac and cheese for lunch.

I'm tired already. But I'll be doing more laundry today while I'm off watching him, and maybe I'll get some fic writing in. We'll see... Chasing after him to get him to lay down is going to be interesting.
