serennig's interview answers!

Feb 27, 2004 14:32

as for updates, i can't get to the main lj page because it's not on the approved list of websites that can be accessed. i can check my e-mail, where comments to this entry shows up, and reply to e-mails. but with every page that loads, i have to click cancel at least 3 times with every few letters typed. pain in my ass, i tell you. :)

but anyway, on to the interview answers:

1. What are you doing at Coney Island? Are there roller coasters?
i'm currently doing my OB-GYN rotation. 3 weeks in, 3 to go. i haven't really traveled too much around. i've walked around my godmother's neighborhood in Bensonhurst, and i got my hair done last Friday. whee! new highlights and a cut! and i bought two pairs of shoes at payless! other than that, i have lots of fun eating dinner with them or watching dvd's i borrowed from the guys. i know, such fun. :)

as for the roller coasters... there was the cyclone at the park. i'm not sure, but i think it was closed down a few years ago. haven't been by the park or the beach yet since it's been too cold. :(

2. When did you start doing RPGs, and with who, and why.
my first rpg was in high skool with a bunch of friends who needed someone else to play with them, but i couldn't tell you anything other than i was a major psionic dwarf thanks to the roll of the die. it was kinda interesting, but i never did find out what game it was since they were only trying out the system and didn't really get a game together. no one else i knew was interested in getting a game together.

the first real rpg that i was happily involved in for more than a one-shot was a vampire: the masquerade sabbat game. Jay had a bunch of gamer friends and it had come up in conversation that i had tried to game once. he asked if i was interested in joining up, and i said sure. that started three years ago, actually. i was a toreador computer hacker that grew up as an army brat. fun times. now jay's gamer friends are my gamer friends.

3. What do you want to be when you grow up? (Where do you see yourself ten years from now)
Scarily enough, this was one of the questions i was asked on my med skool interview. :)

Ten years from now, I will have finished my Psych residency and my Child Psych fellowship. I'll be working with the hospital (I hope for LIJ, actually, since they have Schneider's Children's Hospital associated with it). AT some point, i'll probably try to put together a private practice, too. maybe after i've been an attending for a few years. I will most likely be living somewhere in Nassau County. I will be married to Jay even if i have to ask him myself, and i'll have at least two kids. Which he better help take care of. :)

4. Describe the typical day in your life, when you were 12 years old.
When I turned 12, I was in seventh grade. I had gotten my hair cut in January from two inches above my knees to shoulder length and permed. (Hey... it was also 1991... everyone was getting perms then.) That cuts a lot of prep time from my morning.

I woke up at 6:30am and my dad drove me and my brother to school. I was the only one attending the junior high school at the time, and i got there about 7:20am and took part in early morning programs. i think half the time i worked as a monitor for different teachers. I would have classes in the morning and try to avoid being teased to death during those classes. If I remember correctly, for most of the year my seat was changed in art class to near the teacher's desk, so that really helped. the rest of the time I mostly kept to myself and did my best to ignore everyone. i had outdated hall passes to leave the lunch room and go be a library monitor, but the security guards all trusted me and never checked the dates. i went to the afternoon classes, then would walk the 12 blocks home in the afternoons. I watched a few of the Disney afternoon cartoons during a snack, then did my homework until dinner. sometimes after dinner i would finish off the odd topic that i didn't finish before dinner. after dinner i would take a shower, watch tv or do reports for class. my bedtime was about 10pm. then i'd go to sleep and do it all over again the next day.

5. Suddenly you've been whisked off to an evening at the racetrack, with wine, good food, a view of the track, and tableside betting. It's some drug company thing. You've been given $20 to bet on a horse -- you keep anything you win, but you can't keep the $20 if you don't place a bet. Do you bet? If you do, how do you choose which horse to bet on?
ooh... someone better tell those drug companies that it's illegal. :)

but anyway, in keeping with the question, i'd take the $20 and look for some interesting sounding name that i felt some kind of resonance with. i know nothing about betting, and probably the drug reps wouldnt' either. so i'd just pick a name and cheer it on for the hell of it. if i win, that's cool. if not, i can always say i was at a racetrack. :)

The Rules this time around...

1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed. Because of my snarky connection at Coney Island Hospital, it'll be a while before i can send you questions unless you include your e-mail addy in the comment, since I can't access LiveJournal to look up your e-mail address.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.
