Mixing up exercising

I had a Doh! moment last night. See, we own an elliptical, and it's been my go to equipment for working out for the past two months. I'm on it 4-5 nights a week, slowly making it harder with longer times/more resistance to ensure that I'm constantly working and getting a good sweat.

Over that same period, my elbows and knees have been getting gradually more tender. And I couldn't figure out why. I've been feeling stronger in joints that were painful before, so it didn't make any sense.

Until I put the two together last night and realized how hard I was gripping the handles as I worked my upper body. After a little research about the possibilities of repetitive strains using an elliptical, it looks like I finally have a reason.

So basically, I really need to mix it up. I like the elliptical because it lets me watch TV at the time, so I can't say I'm excited about other kind of workouts. Listening to music isn't enough for me. I get bored beyond belief and quit before I should. I'm going to go back to the gym, but you need earbuds to listen to the TVs there and since I can't wear those...well, I'll figure something out.
