Good God, child! What do you mean, you "don't know how to love"? Do you think any of us know how to love?! Do you think anybody would ever do anything if thye waited until they knew how to love?! Do you think that babies would ever get made or meals cooked or crops planted or books written or what God-damn-have-you? Do you think people would even get out of the bed in the morning if they waited until they knew how to love? You have had too much therapy. Or not enough. God knows how to love, Kiddo. The rest of us are only good actors.

Let me tell you something, Pal: your mother doesn't owe you anything. You're a grown-up. She fed you and clothed you and held you, even if she did have a drink in her hand while she was doing it. And however she fucked you up --- and I'm sure she did --- every mother fucks every kid up --- she did it with style, you hear me?
"the Church is wrong. Despair is not the worst of the cardinal sins. Jealousy is. It's more complex.
"Ecoute, femmes," she said, her voice like the slow-moving rich bayou itself, her tome wavering somewhere between tears and ferocity. "God don't like ugly, Mes Petites Choux. Ca va? No matter what they'll try to tell you, Bebes! God don't make ugly, and God don't like ugly. Le Bon Dieu is a god of loveliness and don't yall forget it!"
"We're all hanging by a thread in the canyon of doom. We're all each other's keepers."
