R.I.P. Mike of Conpix.net
I just learned that Mike Schweizer, AKA Orange-shirt-Mike of conpix.net has passed-away after battling cancer for sometime. ;_;
Mike was a well-known veteran photographer, who went to many conventions & events in CA and did a lot of coverage for his site.
It was just yesterday, not quite 3 months, when my father passed-away, also suffering from cancer since 2010. This happened 2 days right before the WonderCon weekend, and it was at the con that I talked to Mike's daughter, Elizabeth, and she told me that her dad was suffering from cancer and would no-longer be-able to attend conventions and take pictures. Then at SakuraCon a few weeks later, LauraC showed me the email that Mike had sent out, explaining to his friends, family, and cosplayers about his current condition and what he plans to do for the remaining time in his life. It was quite emotional and everyone wished him the best.
And now he is gone. I remember him being very active at conventions, taking lots of pictures of cosplayers, and whenever he was backstage at a Masquerade, he would always make-sure the lighting around him was good, that the back-drops weren't showing anything that looked bad, and that he just had a wonderful personality to him that made him very likeable to cosplayers everywhere he went.
My condolences go out to Elizabeth and the rest of her family. The cosplay photography world has just lost a valuable friend.
