Fall 2011 Conventions

Aug 19, 2011 09:01

Hey everyone,

August is rolling by too quickly, and with no conventions this entire month, it gives me time to post all of my pictures from the crazy July that was the usual trifecta of cons: Anime Expo, San Diego Comic Con, and Otakon.  All three were enjoyable, but it seemed like each one wasn't as good as the previous one, and while I plan to attend all three again next year, I think those conventions will either be the same like this year, or different, or not as enjoyable as this year.  Only time will tell.

This upcoming September will be a little different from what I normally do for conventions each year.  I will be at Dragon*Con at the beginning of September, but instead of going to Nan Desu Kan the weekend after, I will be missing it this year.  I've enjoyed going since 2004, but with airfare being costly, and I'm having trouble finding room-space, but mainly funds being low, I can only afford D*C this year.  I will miss my friends in Denver, but I'm sure they will have fun.  I will try to return in 2012.

As a back-up plan, I will be going to SNAFU-Con in Reno, NV that weekend that NDK is taking-place.  It's a small con, but it's less expensive for me and it gives me a chance to try a new con.  Plus since I'm in Reno, I can take pictures of cosplayers during the day, and then gamble during the night! ^_~  Not a big gambler, but last time I was in Reno I did well on the new Star Wars Droid Hunt slot video-slot, and looking forward to trying my luck again.  So it should be a fun, relaxing 2-day convention.

Then at the end of September, I'm going to Saboten Con in Phoenix, AZ.  Another new con for me, with a lovely hotel and a chance to meet new cosplayers.  I haven't been to Phoenix for a con since AniZona 2006, so it's definitely been a while.  Looking forward to it a lot.

October brings Yaoi-Con, although it'll be the weekend before Halloween, which makes it harder for me to secure Halloween night off for my annual Winchester Mystery House Cosplay gathering.  If Y-con was on Halloween weekend, since I'm already getting the time-off for that weekend, then Halloween is assured.  But being a week later, other co-workers have already asked for that night off.  I'll still request it off and hope I can get it, since hosting the WMH gathering is always fun.

Then in November comes one more convention.  Usually I choose Anime USA in Washington DC to see my East Coast friends once more, but last year wasn't good for me since I got delayed going to the con, making me miss most of Friday, and then on Sunday I got delayed going home, so that wasn't fun.  Not to mention that I for one am REALLY tired of the hotel for AUSA, which I remember going to for Otakon 1998, Katsucon 2001-2004, 2009, and Anime USA 2007-2010. I heard they're moving it to a bigger hotel in 2012, so I may wait until then.

So the weekend before I might be going to Anime Vegas.  The con usually is held during Labor Day weekend, but this year they moved it to November 11th weekend, and I might go there.  It's also the same weekend as PMX in Los Angeles, but I didn't like the con that much in 2008, plus I will wait until Anime LA 2012 to see my friends in So. CA.  Anime Vegas sounds more fun & relaxing, although smaller, but like SNAFU-con, I'll have the opportunity to take pictures and also gamble.  (I swear, I'm not an addict! haha)

With 4.5 months to go in the year, and at-least 5 more conventions to go, my work is still cut-out for me.  Lots of pictures to be taken, (and post afterward) new friends to meet, older friends to reunite with, and fun to be had until the holidays are here and no conventions until January.

Hope to see you all at these remaining conventions in 2011!
