I <3 baseball

I've written before about how I enjoyed listening to White Sox baseball broadcasts on ESPNRadio 1000 in Chicago, haven't I? (I guess this should serve as yet more motivation to finish tagging all my old LJ entries.) Well, it's funny, but I didn't realize just how much I loved baseball until this past year when the Tigers re-discovered what it means to be "competitive with the rest of the league."

Since then, I've followed the teams ups-and-downs with interest via The Detroit News' Sports page. I was just as shocked as anybody that they made it to the World Series last year. (I was hoping for, in a best-case scenario, finishing around the .500 mark.) And, while I expect them to contend this year, I don't expect them to win it all. (That's right. I think it's about time for them to suffer the curse of increased expectations.) I think last year will turn out to be sort of an aberration, and this year will be a more accurate gauge of where they stand with respect to the rest of the league.

But I have to admit that I feel good about the fact that they are a legitimate contender this year. It's just that I don't really know why exactly that is. How strange is that?

Is romantic love the same way? I don't know, but I'll save writing about that for some other time.
