Thanks to Henry Park's away message on AIM, I found out that Portillo's('s?) first location outside of Chicago has now opened ...

... in Buena Park, CA. It looks like they opened on October 11th. Someone took pictures at an event that George Wendt and Jim Belushi showed up to on the 8th ( Read more... )

Well, if you like a good Chicago-style hot dog (dog topped with onions, tomato slices, cucumber, hot peppers, and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment), it's a good place to go.

Not only that, but they also have this great beef sandwich called the Italian beef sandwich. Savory thin slices of beef, dripping with their own juices, on a bun cut from a French loaf, topped with mozzarella cheese (or, as was my brother's custom, cheese sauce) and hot peppers.

My mouth's watering just thinking of this stuff. :d

It's probably political, no way a place dominated by coney dogs would allow the presence of chicago style hot dog joints. Probably the same thing with cheesteak dominance keeping out the introduction of italian beef :p
