Channel surfing tonight I started watching Korero Mai, the Maori language programme on the Maori Channel. To my surprise, they were covering somewhat colourful words and phases, such as pihau (silent fart) and telling people they smell bad!

pihau - silent fart
haunga - smell
nono - butt

I hope to watch Korero Mai again, and hopefully next time I will remember more than just amusing and rude words!

Alliance conference in wellington over the weekend turned out to be very postive. Gave me a chance to catch up with many people I had not seen since I first left NZ for overseas in 2002. This included my old flatmate from Wellington, Victor Billot who now lives in Dunedin, and an Auckland activist friend of mine, Julie F who lives in Auckland.

I ended up running the education policy workshop at the conference, which people were nice enough to tell me went well and included some interesting discussions.

Flew up to Wellington on Thursday and stayed with my friend Kane in Mt Vic. I was lucky enough to sleep on the couch in the lounge. We shared out the cushions among those sleeping on the floor. With Tom, Jenny and myself spread over a smallish lounge it felt a bit like sleeping on a Marae.

I had earlier emailed my other friends Deb, Bob and Judith asking them if they would like to catch up while I was in wellington. As it turned out Judith was having a 21st party on the Sunday so I scored myself an invite! It was great to catch up with Judith for the first time in over two years, and on such a special night too.

Drank quite a bit of my bank account at Wellington pubs, and found a copy of the 'History of Britian' TV series on DVD so it turned out to be an expensive but fun weekend.
