There was a reason for me not updating my journal last week.
On Saturday I finished an article I have been working on - 'Hijacking of a Nation: Democracy and Self-Determination are a Farce in Occupied Iraq'.
It looks at the how the US has imposed a radical free market economy, imposed 'mass privatisation' (their words) of Iraqi state services and signed contracts with the US corporate sector all while Iraq is still under US occupation, and how these actions are violations of the 1907 Hague Convention that states that an occupying power must respect “unless absolutely prevented, the laws in force in the country”. All this has happened before the Iraqi people have had a change to have a say in an election.
My article is going to be published in the next issue of Foriegn Control Watchdog - a leftie NZ magazine. This article will be the first time I have been pubished under my own name. Yay! (I wrote a couple of articles that were published in newspapers while I was working as a researcher in Parliament, but they were written on behalf of MPs) if people are interested I will be able to post a link to the article once the next issue of Foriegn Control Watchdog goes online about a month after print version comes out. Till then print version will be at University Book Shop :)
