Stepped through time, where has the year gone & other strange things afoot at the dawn of a new age.

With my birthday on Saturday, I thought that I would some up the year gone by.

Well where do I begin. So much has happened, yet strangely nothing much at all. Funny that.

I could start at the beginning, which is always a good, but not the best, place to start. But it is where this tale begins.

This time last year…

It was the year 2002; I was rich, happy & younger than I was now. The worlds eyes were firmly fixed on the failed campaign in Afghanistan, The worlds stock markets continued to fall out of control like a cruise missile dropped from a B2 Stealth Bomber at 10,000 feet, people liked the government*, the names Sin Baden** & Madam Hussei** was on the minds & lips of the warmongering bedlamite Rush**, his dispossessed administration & the rest of the “Free World”*** & Iraq started cropping up in the news again.

There was no killer Pneumonia strains Floating around, there was no book of the human genome, There was no Salon or Pop Idols to rot our brains & I had no idea about what was to come.

Last years birthday is hazy, very hazy. & Then things continued on as normal, I got out of my head, travelled in-between London, Winchester (Where my girlfriend at the time Becci was living) & Northampton (Where I was living). Shopped, had fun. It was a good life.

Then in one day my life fell apart. Which in itself wasn’t a bad thing, when looking back at the situation. But at the time was not an enjoyable experience or one that I wish to go through again. I moved to London with 3 bags of clothes & my laptop, lost some friends, had LOTS of money (& I do mean LOTS) stolen & the most important thing, Becci left me.

Talk about a bad day.

So with that I decided to sort myself (as in my head, heart & soul which is what really needed sorting out) spent my time writing an album, joining Revolution By Night (I still thank you both for the opportunity & I am sorry if I’ve done something to upset you both & am I still in the band?) & running around like a complete muppet.

But saying all that, since that fateful day I’ve got to know lot of fucking fantastic people far better that I thought that I would. I’ve met some of the best people on the planet & now have the honour of calling them my friends, had some of the best moments in my life & met the girl of my dreams****. I’ve created my first album, played live on stage, got disposed an alter ego***** & have become something more than I ever thought that I could or wished to be.

So it wasn’t all bad.

To all those who have made the 26th year of my life more than I though it would be, all I can do, & believe me it falls so short, is to say.

Thank you from the deepest part of my heart. You are all brilliant & I’m truly honoured to have you as my friends.

Geoff

* Well sort of, ok you’ve got me there.
** Yet again the names have been changed to protect the guilty.
*** I use that term in its loosest sense.
**** Who doesn’t know I like her & never will. Sad in a sappy, hopeless romantic kind of way.

Dr Bloor for me. Onward holy insurrectionists, let us fight the good fight. Down with Kinder Eggs.
