Ladies and Gentlemen, the Eagle has been shot down...

From the AP wire 41 minutes ago:

Our great..*ahem* *cough* leader, signed this into law:

"The law protects detainees from blatant abuses during questioning _ such as rape, torture and "cruel and inhuman" treatment _ but does not require that any of them be granted legal counsel. Also, it specifically bars detainees from filing habeas corpus petitions challenging their detentions in federal courts. Bush said the process is "fair, lawful and necessary.""

If you had any doubts as to whether this country was in trouble, or our fundamental freedoms were in jeopardy, or if we were in the grips of some fundamental righteousness that precludes common sense and all that our forefathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, brothers, friends, lovers, husbands, foremothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and wives had or the sacrifices they made to keep the face of freedom shining through the night, then you should push aside those doubts now. The fundamental freedoms our forebears enjoyed and that recent generations struggled to ensure would spread to the minority population (by this I mean all minorities, racial or not) and had hoped they would spread through the rest of the world... are no more. They have ceased to be.

Don't ask what you're being charged with, you no longer have the right to know. There should be massive protests in the streets right now, (technically as soon as this idea was ever proposed there should have been protesting), but there won't be. Everyone will go to work to earn the money that keeps the food coming into the cage. Most people won't even know it happened because they don't watch or read the news because it's "too depressing". Those not working will tune in to Access Hollywood to find out if Brangelina's body guard will be charged w/assault, and this evening they'll find some other drivel to entertain themselves with cause they are tired and stressed from running on that wheel.

Many of those who do find out about it will not know what just happened to them because the education that prepped them to be on the wheel did not explain the meaning of the bill of rights, the constitution, or habeas corpus. They only made them memorize them in some pointless rote exercise.

This is how they poison us, bit by bit, because most don't even have a fundamental understanding of science.

I'm not saying I know all the answers or haven't been guilty of deliberately being misinformed, I have. I had to look up habeas corpus the first time I heard this was in the works, over 2 years ago.

Labels have amazing power, most of the time I don't bother telling ppl for fear of being labeled a conspirorist. Judging by today, we should all attain that title.

I also have to say I'm at a loss as to what to do other than complain loudly and in large groups. I wish everybody except those whose jobs have actual lives depending on them, would just stop working and head to the streets to let them know that this needs to be repealed immediately and Uncle George and his buddies need to be Impeached and Jailed for crimes against the state... but we'll leave the current law intact until after they're locked away in a "detention center".

I loved you America, I will miss you.

In mourning,
E
