Summary: Baekhyun finds that having one of those days, when the whole world is against you, when the storms arise and only thunder down on you, isn't all that bad.
a/n: inspired by
chanyeolfeels' encounter with the boy/her soulmate known as "the exo guy" :D
You know those days when it just seems like the whole world is against you? Like when your teacher springs a pop quiz on you when you spent the whole of last night going through Tumblr till 4 in the morning. Or maybe when you’re the last person to get to the dinner table and all the food’s gone.
Yep, well, Baekhyun was having exactly one of those days.
The rain poured down on its victims without mercy. Each raindrop exploded like a bomb against the gravel of the streets, causing everyone below to take cover under rather useless umbrellas and inside street shops.
However, this wouldn’t be one of those days if Baekhyun was safe and warm and snuggly under the covers of his soft blanket. It was one of those days because while others were comfortably dry, he was subjected to running in the rain. And of course, running in the rain was stupid, because every step created a tsunami, sinking his feet into the puddles and soaking his clothes with water.
Why was he running in the rain in the first place? It’s simple. He overslept. He’d sacrificed hours of sleep, catching up with the latest episode of Hello Counselor and Gag Concert. As a result, he was late for his Business class and was forced to run in the rain, yellow umbrella in hand, carelessly being flung about as he tried to avoid the deeper waters.
By the time he’d reached the bus stop, there wasn’t even any point in him carrying the umbrella. With or without the stupid thing, he’d be drenched. His clothes sagged and hugged his body close due to the weight of the water they’d absorbed and his hair came down flat in tangles, stuck right onto his cheeks and his forehead. With his signature pout, he looked like a lost puppy. Definitely his best look of the year.
He glanced at his watch, 9:45 AM. Considering the journey time and if he ran from the bus all the way to his class, there was the slim chance he could still make it. If the bus actually came like it was supposed to.
9:46 AM. No bus. Baekhyun started to paddle his feet in the water, creating small ripples.
9:48 AM. Still no sight of the big yellow contraption. He started to swing harder and harder.
9:50 AM. WHERE THE HELL IS THAT BUS. By this time, all other bus-waiters seemed to back away from the crazy guy raging at the puddles with his feet.
9:52 AM. Finally.
Baekhyun boarded the bus with an empty heart. It didn’t really matter anymore, whether the bus was fast or slow or whether he ran to class or crawled. He only had 8 more minutes, it wasn’t possible anymore. Worse than being late, is being unfashionably late. He glanced down at himself, only to look back out the window and start crying.
Could this day get any worse?
He muffled his sobs with his jacket and stared out of the window at the dreariness that lay before him. The weather had already forebode a tragedy. He should’ve just stayed at home from the very beginning.
As he had just gotten through beating himself up for being such an idiot, he felt a weight sink next to him. With whatever ounce of strength he had left in him, he turned his head to the right, to find a pair of unusually large, dark, hazelnut eyes staring at him, or rather his thighs.
What a creep, he thought to himself, getting ready to turn his back towards the stranger who also seemed to have the largest pair of ears Baekhyun had ever seen. They stuck out like Dobby, or worse. And it didn’t help that his slick haircut was short and styled up, it just placed more focus on his ears and so did the Bratson snapback that sat unbalanced on his head. His fashion taste was commendable though - a simple blue checkered shirt and dark skinny jeans. Now, a man with a sense of fashion, he can appreciate. But not if they were going to spend the whole time ogling his thighs. Disgusting.
But then, as he was about to turn back to the window, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something.
A little white band wrapped itself delicately around the stranger’s wrist. It was exactly like the one he was wearing at that time, a declaration of his love for his favourite band of all time, Paramore. He would die for a strand of Hayley William’s gorgeous hair.
Oh.
His wrist, not his thighs.
His eyes travelled up from the band to the boy’s pure eyes.
Oh.
ASDFGHJKL.
Their gazes locked like an invisible string of electricity was just buzzing between them and keeping them connected. After a few seconds of awkward eye contact and failed attempts at coherent introductions, they burst into laughter simultaneously. When he laughed, his cheeks formed pink apples, his mouth burst open wide and his eyes twinkled with starlight. He was dreamy, like, really dreamy.
It was quite indescribable. It felt as though time had stopped for the two of them, as if the world had stopped turning and the moon and the Sun and everyone around had just stopped to witness this scene, this lovely scene of two youths falling in love. Two soulmates finally finding their way to each other and in such unexpected circumstances at that too. It was crazy.
They held gazes for no more than 5 seconds but it was as if they’d known each other for years. When he stared into his eyes, Baekhyun could see the world with all its unending knowledge and comfort. He envisioned red roses, late nights and warm hugs.
They spoke less than 3 words but it was as if they’d said all that needed to be said. When Chanyeol saw the way his mouth formed an almost rectangle to let out a laugh, he recognized the familiarity, the gentleness and genuineness.
They had barely become acquaintances but it was as if they’d been lovers for decades. When Baekhyun heard Chanyeol’s laugh fill the air with a feeling that felt all too close to home, he knew he was the one.
And just like that, as Baekhyun is still barely drying himself of the rainwater and the tragedies of the day, it occurs to him that perhaps this could be the best day of his life. For during one of those days, when it seems like the world is completely and utterly against you, there will be that someone who will continue to stand right beside you and face the world with you.
