He just guard your body and all?

It's taken me almost a week to post about this, but I figured I would wait 'til (almost) everything was settled. So... I got a new (to me) car. My mom found it and bought it for me, and last Saturday I went and picked it up from New York, leaving my old car (I'll miss you, Hyacinthe :'() behind. I've got him all registered as of today, plates on ( Read more... )

I know changing the battery isn't difficult. Call me paranoid, but this is the situation I envision:

I've gone to a concert in, say, New Jersey, four hours from home. I am in a parking lot in a strange city in the middle of the night... and my locks won't unlock because the battery has died. Having another key fob safe at home doesn't help me in the slightest at this point.

Getting a second one is a good suggestion, but it doesn't solve the core problem.

Also, after a trip to the dealership, we discovered that the problem is that apparently all three door locks HAVE been replaced... so I can either have them (or one of them) replaced again, or see if a locksmith can create a key for them. Argh.

Awwwwwwwwww. She kinda reminds me of my brother's Ford Escort that he totalled named Mrs. Vincent.

Hasn't read book, but i was busy assuming you were trying to give it an Aussie name because Subaru is Australian. Was gonna tell you to spell iy Sydney.. XD

Also, i has a 92' car for which i have one key for doors and trunk and another key for ignition. It's not all that bad really. The ignition one has a microchip in it and costs about $100 a key, but i'm fairly sure door keys are cheap. Getting all the locks switched out shouldn't be too expensive, maybe $200 or something(this is not an official rate quote, XD), because it'd only be the cylinders and keys swapped and wouldn't require disassembling the doors or chopping anything up. Should be a fairly simple fix with the man hours costing more than the parts if you're lucky.

Yeah, I have to call the dealership and get a price on it. It's definitely the door locks - we determined that when they created me a new key to the car, and it worked in the ignition but not the doors. Argh.

Alternately, I can call a locksmith and see if they can create a key to fit the locks. It's a matter of which is cheaper.

Sidney is a boy. (He does not, however, have the nuts to prove it, as he has no trailer hitch. :-D)

Subaru is Japanese, btw. Not Australian. What color is the sky on your planet? ;-)
