Forgiveness is nice and all, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way.

They meet again, 5 years later, 2 years after a death. They're undeniabely changed, no longer the children they once were. Her eyes are still the brightest green, but they're burning with fever instead of passion. It's not hatred he sees there, not yet, but there's a grim determination and a silent accusation staring out of those depths so deep that he thinks he might drown.

But if he is to drown, it will be in a sea of blood.

Their fight is fast and furious, in the shadows of the giant stone statues that another pair (had it really been so long?) once fought. The techniques used are different, she with her earth shattering strength instead of a whirlwind of chakura, and he with his blood red eyes that have been pushed to the last level. He won here once, against the strongest of them all, and that made him careless.

He has yet to learn that strength isn't everything.

"That won't work," she states simply, shaking off what he thought to be his ultimate attack, "not against a medic ninja." Where the other once had a mastery of jutsus as well as a summoning contract, she had a mastery of the body. In his moment of surprise following he statement, she darts forward and delivers the fatal blow. And he sees the sky, the bluest sky, for but a moment before her face looms overhead. Green eyes lock with red.

They will never be black again.

"H-how?" He coughs out, blood dribbling down his chin.

"In the end, no matter how high a level it is, it's still just genjutsu." She says softly. "The Hyuuga can see chakura points; I can control mine. Your genjutsu traps the chakura points of the eye. I merely closed them off long enough to dispell the genjutsu."

He doesn't say anything, just looks at her with glassy eyes - death has come to claim him. She sighs and reaches two trembling fingers up to close them. "If you were waiting for forgiveness, Sasuke, you'd have waited in vain. Naruto...Naruto could forgive, but then again, he was always unique, wasn't he? And now, now he's gone because he made a promise to me, and you made a promise to yourself."

When the hunter nin comes, she's still talking, her voice calm -too calm- as she strokes his hair. "I...I'm not special, Sasuke. I don't have a secret family jutsu, or a special blood line technique, or even a monster sealed inside."

"Sakura-san."

"I just have what I've memorized, what I've learned. And that's not enough to be special, is it? Every ninja can do that."

"Sakura-san," the hunter nin repeated, "I need to get rid of the body."

She nods and leans down to place a kiss on bloody lips before stepping back. Wordlessly, she watches the hunter nin pick up the limp body and disappear, clenching her fist all the while.
