Turn your back

Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Pairing: Zack/Cloud
Rating: PG

Even though Meteor has been prevented, Midgar still lies wasted. Twisted scraps of metal spiral upward, only to stop abruptly in sharp, jagged points. Once magnificent buildings are only glorified pieces of rubble now, cracked and broken in their death.

He stands on that cliff, overlooking the sprawled ruins. There are still people there, slinking through Midgar's corpse. Their faces are haunted and wan, some starving - in more ways than one.

Cloud can't say he cares much. Because Midgar has taken so much from him, so much and it hasn't once given anything back. He thinks he's done enough for it all ready, too much sometimes; he doesn't owe them anything. Isn't it enough that he stands on the ground that was once soaked in blood, the place that once embodied all of his (their) hopes and dreams, only to be crushed in a hail of bullets? Cloud takes one last look at the city that once held everything, that now holds nothing, and walks away.

"Hey Spike look, It's Midgar! We're almost there buddy. Things'll get better, you'll see. We're almost there."
