I drove over 1000 miles in just 8 days. From Rochester to Athens, Ohio and back in 72 hours. Rochester to Indiana, Pennsylvania and back in 24 hours. Why? To visit two graduate schools. It's the time of my life where I'm getting ready to move on, and gotta do my research and figure out what the heck I'm going to do for the next two years. I'm looking for Student Affair in Higher Education or College Student Personnel graduate programs. I have a list of six universities, and I've only visited two so far.

Ohio University: Located in southern rural Ohio, about 45 minutes away from West Virginia. Approximately 19,000 students (UG and G). Graduate program: College Student Personnel under Counseling and Higher Education department. 20-25 students per class (students accepted per year) with 5 faculty professors. All students are required to have an assistantship for two years, along with three practicums in different areas bringing the student with experience in 4 different areas of Student Affairs before they graduate. All assistantships and practicums are on campus and with OU. OU is on a quarter system starting Labor day, with a month off from Thanksgiving break until the first week of January. They end mid-June. Thesis or seminar is required for graduation.

Pros:
smaller class/program
campus is gorgeous
assistantships are on campus
quarter system
more practicums (3 at 10 weeks each)
CSP students are closer with their class, than the whole program
acceptance based on whether u get assistantship or not

Cons:
location
college town
interpreters commute from Columbus (approx. 1.5 hours away)
very white school

OHIO UNIVERSITY

Baker University (same as SAU) it has 5 floors, and escalators!

Academic buildings

Residential Halls

Athens had a huge block party, where they shut down 4-5 blocks and set up a huge stage for bands to perform.. there were thousands of college students in awesome costumes walking up and down the blocks.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania: located in mid-Pennsylvania (?) about 50 minutes north of Pittsburgh. Approximately 13,000 students (UG and G). Graduate program: Student Affair in Higher Education. 35-40 students per class with 4 faculty professors. All students are required to have an assistantship for two years, along with two practicums in different areas. Assistantships may be on or off campus, at 13 other nearby colleges. Commute may be as long as 2 hours, and as short as 15 minutes. IUP is on a 15 weeks semester system. Thesis not required, but exit examination is required. If you do the thesis, you don't have to take the exam.

Pros:
closer to the city
provided me an interpreter for the meeting
more diversity
more time for practicum (two at 15 weeks each)
all SAHE students know each other, very friendly and warm

Cons:
larger program
stuck with assistantship for 2 years
50% chance of commuting to assistantships/practicums

INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

HUB (equivalent to our SAU) but it also includes the fitness center
