Costume sketches
In case my recent rants posts didn't give me away, I am actually going to be competing in Adult Bronze in figure skating this season.
I have picked my music and found someone who will sew me a costume, as well as a place to buy good quality rhinestones in bulk and at decent price.
Today, I finally doodled some costume sketches:
This is the sketch that I am going to send to the seamstress. It's basically a plain black catsuit with black illusion mesh sleeves. What worries me are the cut-outs/cleavage, which will be covered with illusion mesh, too. I am not sure whether I would like it to be skin-colored or black, but that's besides the point. My primary worry is whether they can line the mesh with nude fabric and how that will look. I need to wear a sports bra or at least a regular bra underneath, so it needs to cover me. I haven't found much information about that particular issue online; clearly most skaters have no boobs to speak of? Another important question is whether they can match the fabric and the mesh to my skin tone.
This is the doodle that includes the rhinestone layout as well. I'm planning to use several different sizes of stones. In terms of colors, I read up on this and supposedly skaters often use a color called "aurora borealis", which is a clear crystal with a slight rainbow shimmer. Supposedly, that one picks up the color of the costume quite nicely. So I am considering using that or maybe a mixture of clear (white), grey and black crystals. I am going to buy Czech Preciosa crystals and maybe a tiny little bit of Swarovski stones; the Czech ones are nearly as nice as Swarovski, but a lot cheaper. I'm going to order them from the Czech Republic and overall, it should be around 25EUR for rhinestones. The suit will be around 85 EUR, so in total I'd be a bit over a 100 euros, which is fine.
I worry that the costume doesn't match the music that well, that maybe I should try for something plainer, arrange the stones differently...
What do you guys think?
I don't know, sometimes I feel very stupid about all this, because I'm not that good and here I am buying custom costumes and rhinestones. But then again, maybe I should just indulge.
