Yeah you made me feel shiny and new.

Lille finally stops being lame and gets some snow of its own:

It was cold in the morning; the boys' alarm (i.e. loud music) from downstairs woke me up at like 6:45. I got cold, I got worried, and I couldn't fall back asleep for the longest time. I finally managed and then it was already 8:30 and my alarm was ringing. I got up, grumpy because the mornings are chilly, and had some breakfast.
Today was the first day I actually wore a winter jacket. It was a last-minute decision and I was happy that I put it on instead of the coat, because it was cold outside. I got to the rink and five minutes later it started to snow. Or no, back then it was just these frozen white raindrops that look like pearls.

I gave my skates to the employee at the rink for sharpening. "But they are already sharp," he said. (He was one of the rental skate dudes again, I think.) "Yes, I know, but -" and then I got stuck because I don't know enough French. He understood, though, and asked if I wanted them sharpened a bit more, stronger. I nodded and several moments later, I had them back, wonderfully sharp.
There was that momentary funny feeling when I stepped on the ice, the blades felt all different, but I got used to it quickly and I could finally, fucking FINALLY skate properly again.

It was cold at the rink and I was glad for the extra tank-top I'd put on. It started snowing for real while I was skating, but it all melted within minutes.
Things worked rather nicely today. My waltz jump is back (and I dared to jump higher than I usually do), I can do three turns and counters again, my spins were okay but not the best I can do, my backspin was non-existent, I jumped several reasonably good salchows (!!! HA THE SAL OF DOOM! I will conquer it eventually!), a couple loops (I haven't done them in a while, not properly, so they were hard), a couple toe-loops (these used to be better). My twizzles were all screwed up. I did a funny belly-flop while attempting a forward spiral lol! There were these two little figure skater girls who did various things - they did a bunch of half-flips, so I got to watch and copy them and hee, the half flip is kinda simple. (Chances are that I'm doing it wrong, though.)
There was also a girl with her mother... and the first thing the mom made the girl do was spirals, billions of them, though the girl couldn't really do them properly; she didn't look very confident on her skates. Come on, you don't make your kid do spirals without warming up first! :/
Anyway, it felt so good to skate properly again, and to be able to do things. It felt wonderful. Skating = ♥ I was all bouncy on my way home, listening to music and choreographing in my head (who knew that Madonna's Like a Virgin would make such a fun program? with fun costumes, too!) and thinking about lifts and throw-jumps and stuff. I wrote fic on the metro, too. It was cold, but sunny yay.

Did I mention that there was a fire two nights ago? It was in the middle of the night, almost 1am, when suddenly the air started to smell horrible and I saw sparks fly through the air outside the window... It was slightly scary. There is charred burned up object in front of our house now; I'm not sure what it is. WTF?!

Now I gotta go put the finishing touches on the paper about China (it's longer than it's supposed to be... again. damn. I don't think I want to shorten, though) and then finish the ficlet and then watch some CoR videos or some TV show or actually finish my review of the TEB weekend... Too many things to do. It's so dark and stormy-looking outside.
