Amalienborg Castle and Marmorkirken

We went to Amalienborg castle today. It is a very grand place made up of 4 palaces. However, it does not look as grand or as mysterious as that of Krongsborg Castle. I must say that I am rather disappointed as I thought that Amalienborg Castle would be extremely grand since it has 4 palaces. However, it does not look like a castle as I imagine it to be. Though the architecture was really beautiful and nice, there does not seem to be a historic feel to it. It seems rather modernized and not like a castle at all. The exhibitions were also not as good as that of the previous two castles. Only one palace was open as a museum and different settings were set up in the castle. Most of the scenes were of the study rooms of the different kings and the drawing room of the queen. The places were all closed up by glass panels and we could only view the pieces from afar. All the furniture seems to be pretty new and there was no historic feel to them at all. They feel like any other furniture that one sees everywhere. The whole exhibition was also pretty short and I must say that I am really quite disappointed with it. We also saw the change of guard today at noon. I was rather looking forward to it as I had seen pictures of the change of guards on postcard and it seemed to be a rather grand affair. Everyone has also gathered to watch the change of guards and it felt really exciting. The anticipation level was rather high too. However, high hopes came with disappointment. The guards were not really uniform in their marching and there was not an extremely grand feel to it as a result. The guards also seemed a little nonchalant and it appeared that they did not put much effort into it. The whole affair took a rather long time and was rather boring.

After lunch, we went to Marmorkirken. It is actually a church with an extremely modernized interior. It is a really beautiful place. We waited till 3 pm so that we could actually climb up to the bell tower where we were awarded with a most wonderful view of Copenhagen. There were around 260 steps and it was narrow and twisting the whole way. However, every little amount of effort put into climbing to the summit was worth it. The view is wonderful. It’s beautiful. I am really glad that the weather today is rather good and the pretty sky is appearing again so we were able to have such a wonderful view. I really hope that the wonderful weather can last a little longer. :)
