SKYFALL: fanservice with class
SKYFALL SQUEE AHEAD - SPOILERS ABOUNDING
Went to see SKYFALL with my brother, as is my wont with all big blockbuster action-type dramatic filums. We both agreed it was fantastic, although personally I think Quantum of Solace had the better action plot, but MY GOD THE FANSERVICE. Oh. Oh.
You mustn't read this if you don't want to be spoiled, because it's so worth it to see it develop. k?

M and Bond on a road trip? Really did you do this just for me Mr. Mendes? Because I about died when you pulled out the Aston Martin *and* the old James Bond theme and plunked M and Bond in the front seat together On the Road to Glencoe. And then you gave us Albert Finney! In a creepy old mansion on the moor! Oh, poor wee Bond backstory.
And this was after you served us up Ralph Fiennes saving M in a shoot-out in Parliament, and Bond being tied to a chair and fondled by the excellently creepy Silva (because I get awfully tired of seeing women always being the ones under sexual threat.) Awesome comeback, btw, Mr. Bond. Not to mention the scene in the museum with baby!Q and the lo-tech hi-tech. :D And we get back-story on Moneypenny! Who, in addition to shooting Bond, later saves his ass (well, brains, from being splattered.) I love how unapologetic she is about it. It really was an impossible shot. And a straight razor *shaving scene*! Have they been reading my due South fanfic?
Oh, the treats were never-ending. I was almost willing to forgive Bond just walking in on Sévérine in the shower like that. Knock first much, James? The woman deserves some respect considering she's under this creepster's thumb.
And I guess I should have expected the Bond Girl to die yet again, but still. Argh.
I forgive you, Mr. Mendes, because you gifted me with such squee, I can't even. Judi! Judi you were so so fabulous in this, you surely deserve an Oscar. M manipulated Bond from the moment she took him in, and yes, though I believe she came to love him, she still used him, and she did call for the shot. It takes an extraordinary person to use everything you are and everyone you love for Queen and Country.
And he obviously loved her for the same reason.
