Fall 2008 Anime, Part 2

And here's round two of my picks for Fall '08.

A lot of y'all that were, or perhaps still are big on PS2 RPGs will know this one. The premise is simple enough- prince in some other, DnD style world is sent on a quest with a party of 4 and counting. I was half-expecting another World Destruction, i.e., don't hate it, but barely enough there to get me through it, but it is showing far more promise than that only 2 episodes in. Perhaps it's the fact that these people have all these powers and they actually do cool things with them, or maybe I just enjoy a well-built world and sharp cinematography, but this one feels right. If it keeps up the pace it's set for itself so far (and those annoying yet compelling cliffhangers) I see myself thoroughly enjoying it.

This one's just a gem folks- You've got a badass butler that serves an eyepatch-wearing 12-year old with an awesome family name, Phantomhive. He knows how to work even the worst situation so that it turns out fine- Women want him, men want to be him, Sebastian Michaelis. It's got comedy, suspense, and even a little romance- it handles well enough on what it appears to offer, but there is apparently also a supernatural side to it as well- if it's handled as well as the rest of the show, I salivate with anticipation.

At first, this zombie-military-action entry might seem a little derivative, but I have one word for anyone that feels like this is just going to be another romp in the cemetery- MOTORCYCLE-FU That's right- a girl uses her motorcycle to perform martial arts moves. There's not a lot of plot in the first episode, but given how it ends, I think it's safe to say many are going to be watching at least the second.

Went and saw 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People', the new Simon Pegg vehicle. The guy chooses his projects pretty well- Run, Fatboy, Run wasn't anything hugely special, but he is certainly carving out a niche for himself, and damn if he's going to let his name be associated with crappy comedies. Tomorrow brings a birthday party for my father, which I look forward to if only because it means rare social interaction.

duct tape, at the movies, japanimation
