Well, it's a new season and there's a lot of stuff that's got some very promising-looking first episodes out. Here's what I think about the shows that I've watched and liked so far:
The title of our first series translates to 'A Certain Magical Index', and it centers around Kamijyo Touma, a young man living in the fictional Academy City, which, as its name implies, is full of schools. One other thing that makes his city unique is that there are many espers living within its limits. Young Touma has a lifelong streak of bad luck, which he is cursed with, but as a tradeoff, he is able to nullify any powers an esper may throw at him. His day in the first episode is harsh at best- he meets a young girl named Index who claims to be a guardian of 103,000 grimoires, goes to school where his loli-aged teacher verbally and studiously abuses him, and ends it all by returning to his apartment to find Index lying bloodied, and a very imposing man standing over her. If this first episode is any indication, then we've got a full season of an action-packed magic show with a great sense of humor to look forward to.
Next we have 'Corpse Princess'. This one is from those lovable scamps at Gainax, who brought you such wonderful shows such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Unlike the other two, however, this is based on a manga whose publication just finished last month. The story opens on Kagami Ouri, a young lad who is trying to move out of the shrine his elder brother helps to run, but seems to keep getting sidetracked by the dead girl running around town trying to take out the other, crazier corpse running around town. This girl is Makina Hoshimura, a gun-toting girl in a sailor fuku who is referred to by the people at the previously mentioned shrine as Shikabane Hime. It is apparently her job to hunt down corpses that come back to life to do even worse harm than they did when they were living. This is another promising-looking action show, and with that Gainax flavor, I'm sure it'll pop to life even more so than the manga.
And now we come to a flashy new show based on the 70s superhero series "Robot Hunter Casshern". A summary of the episode doesn't do the amazing visuals in this show justice. As far as I can tell, Casshern is this guy in an awesome costume that killed the leader of some movement, which caused the planet he's on to fall to ruin, and someone's spreading the rumor that if a robot eats Csshern, they'll stop degrading. Most of the rest of the episode is Casshern suffering from amnesia, but from what I've heard, there is a gigantic plot in the offing, along with even more amazing visuals than what we've already seen.
Phew, well, that's all for now- there are a lot of new shows that appear to be worth watching, and y'all are going to get to know about all of 'em.
Not much else really going on these days... Started on the third season of HIMYM, and so far it's just as awesome as the previous ones. Oh, yeah, my copyediting class at UC Extension started. So far, it's looking like this is going to be a job that, with some hard work, I'll be able to have a real future in.
