Recs, assorted

I took a peek at ff.net for new series Doctor Who, & reeled away in horror. So these are filtered through other people's recs lists, mainly the ineffable taraljc ...

Doctor Who (new series)

Spring Cleaning, by infiniteviking

'He had changed; the equations had not.' Well-written portrait of regeneration from the inside

A Triumph of Necessity, by mswyrr

'The human body wasn't quite up to snuff.' Clever, funny & poignant, all at the same time

Been reading a lot of Jossverse fiction of late, and here are a few spoils. As ever, new, old & very old stuff mixed with gay abandon...

Angel

The Girl in the High Castle, by Mosca

'They're not here to win the war; they're here to hold the line, to gain the advantage, to put the right things in the wrong shells and fight the laws of thermodynamics.' This Season 5 AU picks an interesting point to diverge from canon, and develops a believable Fred voice

A Letter from Screwtape to Mr. Holland Manners, by HonorH

A peek at Angel's destiny, from the other side. It's a straightforward crossover, but HonorH rewards the reader with abundant black humour & bags of insight into issues that were often ducked on the show. A real classic [crossover with CS Lewis]

BtVS

Serious Moonlight, by RivkaT & MustangSally

Spuffy meets Indiana Jones: sex & plot wrapped into one neat novel-sized packet. Probably my favourite of the Bowiehabarata series, but the others are also worth a try

Silence, Sounds of, by WhichWitch

'It's all connected, you see.' Beautifully written portrait of grief

Theses on a Philosophy of Power, by Glossalalia

'There are bloodsuckers on every corner. The usual kind, with fangs and dead eyes and skin like paper, and they die as dust. And the new kind, desperate bourgeois selling silver teapots and lace throws and children's toys to pay for passage out of the country.' Set during the Russian Revolution, this is one of the most interesting historical slayer pieces I've seen
