Belated Yuletide reveal & Sutcliff Swap

I wrote The Emerald Band for Zaganthi, 'The Speckled Band' in the 'A Study in Emerald' universe. (SiE is Neil Gaiman's crossover of Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos with Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, and if you haven't read it you should do so.)
avanti_90 kindly did a much-needed last-minute beta-cum-sanity-check.

At nearly 28k words, 'The Emerald Band' is the longest work I've yet completed; it was written in a frantic hurry, mainly in November with the help of picowrimo, while procrastinating over packing for the move. I tried out a new way of writing without outlining or researching in advance or my usual perfectionist rounds of revision, with some success (I finished despite everything going on) and some drawbacks (I'm not sure it's the best way of writing a long casefic). I'm trying to write some kind of commentary on the process but it's getting almost as long as the story.

I haven't had chance to write a word of fiction since, but in a spirit of optimism, I've signed up for the
sutcliff_swap (My Dear Creator letter, if anyone is interested). It's a small, friendly exchange that reliably produces almost uniformly high quality works. Which reminds me, I still have some recommendations from last year to unearth.
