Mai stretched, burrowing deeper under the luxurious blankets. It was barely after six in the morning. Next to her, Lin was sleeping, his breathing slow and deep, a soft snore coming from the man. Mai stretched out her fingers, brushing along Lin's arm. He was warm and his muscles contracted under the feather light touch. She blushed, remembering the night they had spent together. Lin had spirited her away after classes let out for winter break. Naru had disappeared a few weeks beforehand on a business trip, leaving Lin behind.
She stopped the touches, pausing, holding her breath. Lin, stirred softly, shifting next to her. His hand released the bottom sheet, and her fingers traced along his splayed hand. Her hand barely covered his, fingers slipping between his. She laid there next to him like that for a few minutes, matching her breathing to his. They had holed up in the cabin two days ago, and hadn't left. Though, Lin had mentioned at that some point his family would be coming by. That bit of news had set off her nerves, but she was excited more than anything.
Lin shifted again, turning onto his side. His back was to her. Mai reached out, fingers skimming along broad shoulders, and down his back. She traced along the edge of the sheet, fingers dancing along the small of his back. "Is there something you need, Mai?" Lin calling her by name sent shivers down her spine, and once more she withdrew her hand.
"No." The answer came too quickly, she bit her lower lip, ducking further under the blankets to hide her blush. The bed moved, Lin grunting as he turned again. The blankets were peeled down, Mai finding herself face to face with the man. "I just wanted to touch you." She admitted. A small, rare smile graced Lin's face.
"Are you being sentimental?" Lin loomed over her. One of his legs slid between hers. Mai gripped at the blankets, legs parting automatically for the man. He stretched out on top of her, cheek resting against her torso. His hair brushed against her breasts, Mai couldn't help the shivers that rolled through her. She managed to let go of the blankets, fingers combing through his hair. "Is this enough for you Mai?" His voice which was normally deep, was gravelly with sleep. His breath fanned against her stomach, his hand interlacing with her other. Mai continued to pet his hair, slowly managing to regulate her own breathing, though her heart pounded in her chest.
"It's fine, Lin-san." She murmured. It was lazy and comfortable. The curtains were partially open, the early morning light filtering in. Strips of shadow and light criss-crossed the room and their bed. She relaxed against the mattress.
Lin's other hand teased along her hips, fingers pushing between her legs. Mai bit her lower lip, head tipping back into against the pillow. Lin's fingers pushed into her, easing in and out of her body. Her legs fell open fully for him. She was still a bit sore from what they had done the night before. His touches were gentle, however, Mai finding herself responding more and more. Her hand in his hair tightened, tugging on the dark strands. Light kisses were placed to her stomach and breasts, Mai arching softly off the bed.
She cried out as she came, Lin gathering her into his arms, holding her close as she shook. Her nails dug into his shoulders, his mouth easing over hers, swallowing the last of her moans. "Better?" He grinned wickedly at her.
"That's not fair." Her voice shook. His hand was at the back of her head, holding her against his chest. She could feel the soft rumble of his laughter.
"I never said I would play fair with you." He was again on his side, Mai tucked against him.
"When does your family get here Lin-san?" The fuzziness had started to fade from her mind.
"I'm not sure, some of them have a tendency to just show up."
Mai wiggled out of his hold. “Lin, that’s horrible. What if they show up in the next few minutes?” She was twisted up in blankets as she attempted to get out of bed, landing on the floor, on her rear with a grunt of pain. The blankets were still wrapped around her. She could almost feel Lin’s smirk, and so she got up, gathered the sheets around her and marched to the bathroom, head held high.
“Some of them are already here.”
His voice was so soft that she barely heard the words, in fact it took her a few seconds to register what he had said. “Excuse me?” She had been awake for nearly an hour before she had decided to wake Lin up. During that time no one had knocked on the door. It was possible that they had come when she was asleep, but the more she thought about it, the more that scenario seemed unlikely.
“Some of them are already here.” Lin had sat up, the sheet pooling in his lap. Mai had to try very hard not to stare, or drool on herself. He pushed his hair out of his eyes, and she followed the movement avidly.
“Come here.” He held a hand out to her.
Still clutching the blankets, she shuffled over. “This better not be an excuse to get me back into bed.” Hesitantly she placed her hand in his.
“Close your eyes.” She did as he said. “Now, breathe slowly and clear your mind of everything. All worries, all thoughts, everything. Let it all go.” His voice was low and even, Mai finding herself giving in to the lazy tone. Her breathing slowed, tension seeped out of her. Worry about exams, and Naru and cases that were upcoming slowly drifted away.
“Now open your eyes.” There was a curious sensation when Lin spoke again. The words were spoken aloud, but it resonated inside of Mai. Head groggy, but other senses hyper-aware, she opened her eyes. Three figures appeared in her line of vision that hadn’t been there before. Her breath caught in her throat, panic rising.
“Stay calm.” Lin’s voice spoke directly into her mind. “You’re simply seeing what I see. They’ve been here since last night.”
“Ghosts?” The figures were hazy. When Mai looked at them directly, she couldn’t really see anything. It was more in her peripheral, and even then it was if it was in soft focus.
“They’re a few of my family’s elders.” Lin spoke out loud again.
“And they’ve been here all night?” Mai turned to Lin, eyes narrowed.
“They’re always near me.”
“Even when you’re having private, alone time?” Her voice rose, the link between her and Lin severed, the room back in startling relief.
“They’re always near me.” Lin repeated.
Mai shot him an ugly look, color rising on her face when she realized the full implications of his words. She resisted the urge to slam the bathroom door, barely. She drew a hot bath, sinking into the water, with her nose mere centimeters above the water.
After a few minutes there was a soft tap on the door. The handle turned, and Lin let himself in. He glanced at her, and then sat on the floor, his back to the wall. “I just wanted to you to see what I see. They wanted you to see them.”
Mai lifted her head from the water. “You could have done it at a different time.” She crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at Lin. “Are they in here now?”
“It’s just you and I.” Lin held out his hand to her. Mai reached out to him, hand covered in bubbles. He squeezed her hand and let go. Mai got cleaned up and dressed, watching as Lin showered and dressed.
A few hours later, after a flurry of introductions, and explanations, Mai was barely able to remember her own name, let alone all of the names that Lin mentioned to her as she met his family. She sank down onto an overstuffed couch, head tipped back, eyes closed. Everyone had gone, and she was completely, absolutely drained. She startled at the light touch of Lin’s fingers moving through her hair, rubbing gentle circles on her scalp.
“Lin-san, I think I know who my favorites are.”
“Your favorites?” There was a softness to his voice.
“Yes.” She opened her eyes, looking up at him. “I do.”
“And who are your favorites?”
“The ones that I can’t see all the time.” She smiled. “They don’t intimidate me as much.”
His arms dropped over her shoulders, pulling her back against the couch, her head under his chin. “They do like you. They’ve watched you and me as long as we’ve been what we are.”
“You could have told me sooner. When my clothes were on.” She glared at him, playfully.
“I am sorry about that.” He kissed her lightly. “I just didn’t want to keep it from you any further.”
“What, that your relatives are voyeurs Lin-san?” The rare sound of his laughter, made her smile.
