Opera auditions were today. I did pretty well on my aria, though I was nervous, and did really well with the sight reading. Word had it that they were only giving sight reading to people they were considering for the opera and not for scenes. Courtney and I got dinner afterwards, and when I got back they'd published the cast. I GOT A PART! I'm playing Mrs. Nolan, a widowed patron of Madame Flora, the "medium". It's a
pretty dark opera, but I think it will be fun.
For the record...I'm so freaking excited. And shocked. Blake was even surprised when I told him. Word also had it (besides the bit about the sight reading) that the part of Monica had already been cast before auditions even started. Adrienne got Madame Flora, which is fine. She's a true contralto and, well, has a remarkable voice. And Katie, who was hand-selected for Monica, is a true soprano...though I still think she sounds like a boy soprano. So, basically I got the part best fitted to my voice range and ability. I'm just happy I got cast at all!
