As promised... a much overdue LJ update!!
I know I left at least one loyal LJ fan wondering what the hell I was talking about with my John Cusack reference... for a while, I was watching / buying a lot of older John Cusack romantic comedies and basically formulated a theory about them, which could be generalized for romantic comedies in general, except for the fact that John Cusack plays pretty much the same type of character in most of his earlier films. A little snarky, very witty, full of one liners, and most notably, he throws himself whole-heartedly into his relationships (maybe a little too soon in a relationship for reality, but a movie has limited time to have characters fall in love).
When I said that my life feels like a John Cusack movie (yes, that was all back story), in watching those movies I feel like the characters he plays are similar to my personality (though grossly exaggerated in some cases). Or at least how I view myself. I think I've changed quite a bit over the last year. I've become more confident in myself and have really "come out of my shell" socially. I feel that I'm witty, funny, and generally the good guy type you'd root for in movies. Maybe it's all in my head, but does anyone see this at all?? Anyone? No? Didn't think so... Moving on.
So for those of you wondering, now you know...
About a month ago, I bowled in a tournament in which my team came in first and I came in 16th in the singles portion (out of like 100 or so people), so I made out pretty well...
Continuing with the bowling theme, last week was the last night of bowling for both my Mon and Tues night leagues. And in my Tues night league, I won a very close race for high average. I averaged 192.2 for the season and the second place guy averaged 191.7 (or something close to that). Once I stopped worrying about trying to get the high average, I started bowling much better. Basically, I figured "whatever happens happens" then my confidence in my game surged and I had much more fun while bowling... even if I lost, I was still having fun with the game and that was the important part.
Over the last couple of months I've had some projects I've been working on. The first, and longest lasting, was "upgrading" my iPod. I purchased a 40GB hard drive for my 15GB iPod. I went to install it and... it was too thick, the back panel wouldn't close. Since the hard drive was non-returnable, I had to make due somehow. So, I did the logical/awesome thing and, with the help of my step-dad, cut a (generally) hard drive sized hole in the back panel of the iPod and all was well. Or so we thought. We tried the headphone jack and it wasn't quite working right. Neither was the control jack that the remote I have uses. Well, the piece that has those two jacks was screwed to the back panel and we forgot a few basic rules of physics. In order to cut metal, you need a great deal of friction. Friction generates heat. Metal conducts heat well. Electrical components (like the two jacks) do not fair too well under heat. Basically, we cooked them. So I had to replace them... all in all, it cost $250 to upgrade.
You may ask "Why not buy a new one?". Well, there are a several reasons. One: I like the layout of my 3G iPod. Where the buttons are and all that. Two: I don't really need an iPod that can display pictures and play video and all that, because I'm never going to use the iPod to do that. Three: I had just recently purchased a new battery for the iPod so already invested some money into this one. Four: It was just cooler to do it myself. :)
My second project was introduced to me by Doug, who ultra-customized a remote he bought and showed me how it all worked when I visited him last. So naturally, I needed to get one.
And finally, I feel the need to write about this past weekend because it was such an
awesome weekend.
Fri: I went to go see "Thank You For Smoking" which was an incredibly great movie. It was very funny, yet there were times I felt as if I was the only one laughing. Maybe I got more out of it that I was supposed to!
Sat: Doug and I headed up to Marlborough to hang out with LiErin and Adrian who came from Ayer, and Denise who came over from Worcester. We all met at a place called Firefly's which was a really cool BBQ place. Everyone had ribs, but I had this awesome pulled pork platter... ::drools::
Sorry... I digress. After dinner (at 10pm), Denise had to leave, but the rest of us went to Dante's which is attached to Firefly's to see Roger Ceresi's All Starz (a rhythm and blues band with a cool horn section). We played some free pool for about an hour and watched the band until midnight. We were really glad we stayed because the drummer had an incredible solo where he played pretty much every surface in the general area of the stage with out skipping a beat. It was awesome. Maybe you had to be there.
Sun: Got up late, watched the Sox game. Had dinner with the family and watch Dodgeball. Also, I figured out something that was bugging me with the remote project mentioned above.
So a very good weekend overall, and it left me ready to face the week ahead with my head held high.
Hopefully this lengthy entry will satisfy the great LJ gods of updating and the loyal LJ fans with a craving for an update. I know I don't update often, and for that I'm really sorry. I know that I generally don't get to talk to many people as often as I'd like and that my LJ is a way of keeping updated in my life. For that I apologize.
Also, sorry for all the LJ-Cuts, your "friends page" thanks me, I swear.
Now, to end this entry, [insert generic statement about updating more frequently here].
That is all.
